Sole trader - claiming car expenses

Hi, I just wanted to check with other sole traders what expenses they claim for their cars (if you use it for work)

I have been looking online and the information I found I think I can claim for the following:

say if i used my car 80 % for work and 20 % for personal I can claim:

80 % of:
car insurance
tax
MOT
Repairs

45p per mile of business use

is that correct?

Also if i bought a car on finance could I also claim 80% of the monthly cost?

My car is very old and I need a reliable car for work so I am considering getting a new one.

It's 45p per mile OR running costs plus actual fuel cost. You also need to show you have business insurance on the car. You can only claim partial costs of a new car if it is sold to the business, not you, and it isn't as simple as claiming your monthly payments as it is a capital expense. The car also had to have your business logo on it to show it is a business vehicle if I recall correctly. You are best speaking to an accountant.

The 45p/mile is to cover the wear & tear and other costs of running the vehicle, not just the fuel.
You can't claim both expenses and 45l/mile
