Hi I know this is probably not the right place but I couldn't think of anywhere else.

If I was to sell sweets and chocolate from home what certificates would I need?

All of the items I'm looking at are pre wrapped but eventually I'd like to make up my own gift sets.

Any advice please?

I already sell from home but non food related items.

Thanks.

I would say you defiantly need food and hygiene cert , I am not sure if there is such a thing but a allergy/ intolerance training (esp if you are making your own sweets and chocolates) and third party insurance incase someone trys to bring a civil court case against you for what ever reason .
Extra home insurance would be a good idea to in case there in a break in / flood / fire etc and you lose your stock and / or equipment .

All that said it is not something I have looked into but this page may help you

You'll need to register with your local council as a food business and they will come and assess your premises and give you a food hygiene rating. They like you to have a food hygiene qualification. (You should cover allergies etc as part of this.) You'll also need public liability insurance.

In some areas ya it consent applies so you can crack on with your business and they will come and assess you when they get around to it.

As I understand it you will still need to register as a food business even if everything is pre-packed.

Tacit consent not ya it 🙄

I dont know enough about the league side of things when it comes to reselling wrapped products but I would still say you need a food and hygiene cert which you can do on line www.food.gov.uk/business-guidance/online-food-safety-training , hopefully someone will be along to help you with the league side of things.
I am not sure that reselling things that people can pick up in the shops would be a good way to make money .
Things like Haribo , skittles , etc are only £1 in places like quality save , could you really buy them cheaper and be able to sell them on at a profit once you take in to consideration your outlay for fuel / postage for you to get them ?
I don't want to be a wet blanket on your idea but you need to look at the outlay versus the income and the time and effort regarding advertising postage ect .
If you are going to go ahead with the idea you may be better off going for something that people can not pick up in the shops so easily , vintage/ old school sweets like them sites
www.aquarterof.co.uk/
I use this site a lot they have a great variety and excellent customer relations

or this one
www.retro-sweet.co.uk/

There is a lot of competition out there though.
Good luck if you decide to go ahead with your idea 🍫🍬

I’m sure you can do online food hygiene courses.

If you are reselling packaged items and not touching the actual food products, then you do not need a food hygiene certificate. It is recommended you get product liability insurance, and speak with your local trading standards office about training required for stock rotation with regards to expiry dates and what information you need to provide to customers about this and allergies.
