Do you use an accounting software if you are self employed?

I'm thinking about getting quick books as I am self employed and will need to do my tax returns and quick books seems to be useful for this.

Just wondering if any of you use it and if you think it is worth paying for?

Would I still need an accountant for my tax return?

Yes I use quickbooks for invoicing/day to day things but still have an accountant who chases delinquent clients and does taxes etc.

My accountant doesn't much like QB because you can go in and alter things, which upsets her.

I use xero - it's very user friendly.

If it's just for invoicing I have heard that Invoice2go is easy to use too.

Xero all the way. I finally find doing my accounts easy.

We tend to recommend freeagent as it's very easy to use for novices, easy to create invoices, imports from most banks, and you can prepare & submit your SA return from it.

Quickbooks tends to be quite difficult to use for people who've not had any book-keeping experience and it's easy to make mistakes etc. so it's not really one we recommend except to those with experience of software etc.
