Working from home business ideas?

sarah8484 · 11/09/2020 19:44

Im not happy in my current job and would love to quit and work from home around my children's school hours. I have one idea in mind... baking and selling cakes, pastry's etc. But almost every other post I see on social media is someone doing the exact same. What work from home jobs/business do you do/have? Have you quit your job to start your own business? Was it worth it?

I began freelancing 12 years ago and it's only now that I actually make a living.

It takes YEARS sometimes to build yourself up. If you don't have a special skill to sell, then it's inadvisable to stop work.

Do you need to work financially?

If not then you could take a gamble and it pay off, and it is doesn't you could hopefully return to work.

It seems to be the greatest skill a creative person can have when launching a business is being insta/social media savvy - are you prepared to spend a large chunk of your time promoting on SM?

The beauty of the internet is that you can connect to people that share your passion, whatever that may be. So think about the things that you're passionate about, that you really love doing and then see if there's something in that area that you can offer to other people. For instance, if baking is what you love, you could start a newsletter/social media channel/blog showing people either your own creations or tips, or whatever. Critically, you should start off doing it alongside your regular job, give it a go, build a community, see if you enjoy it and what excites people. It needn't be huge at the beginning

It's like anything creative. There are lots of people who write and who knit and who make bead bracelets. But if you're exceptionally skilled at one of those, or are prepared to become so, you could excel, shine above the competition and make a profit. But if you're just the same as everyone else, standing out is hard and likely to make a considerable loss.

Food stuff means getting all health certified for your kitchen, keep that one in mind.
