Is online therapy acceptable?

I’m a clinical psychologist who took the plunge into private practice just before lockdown. I then put all that on hold since I could not provide face to face therapy. However in my NHS role I have successfully delivered remote therapy over the last few months and clients seem to find this acceptable. I wonder if this would be different if you were paying for therapy? Would you find it okay to work with a therapist via zoom? My concern with returning to face to face therapy is the amount of PPE required to sit in a room with someone for an hour will hinder therapy. Any thoughts on my musings would be much appreciated!

It is a challenge.
Hard for clients too.
I am awaiting a course of counselling, and have been offered telephone/ online, but it won't work. I have a house full of family, and trying to have an hour of counselling online would be ineffective. The risk of noise/interruption would make it impossible for me to relax. Plus I really don't want all my family members to know that I am having therapy, and questions would be asked - well intentioned-if I shut myself in a room for an hour and demanded not to be interrupted. So there are confidentiality and practical issue for me.
I have spoken to my case worker and he tells me many clients feel the same.
I am sure not everyone feels this way, but for me zoom is not a viable alternative.

Would your insurance cover you, as there's little evidence base for remote therapy?

I think your answer is - is it working clinically for your NHS patients. If so it's fine

To be honest I think it's fine anyway, I'm also a clinical psychologist and all therapists I know with private practice moved to video sessions as soon as lockdown started.
I've also had a few sessions of therapy myself years ago by phone (my chosen therapist was a couple of hours drive away) and that worked for me.

Some will like it, some won't but business wise I think it's fine

You may wish to join the U.K. Psychologist in Private Practice Facebook group. Lots of clinical psychologists on there successfully offering online therapy. Lots of useful resources/ discussions.
