Has Covid or any past recession pushed you to start your own business?

I have been working in financial services for 12 years. Like most people in the sector the income becomes a drug and you tend to hesitate taking any risk that may impact your livelihood.

With Covid 19 in place and my commute reduced drastically, it's gotten me to rethink and just try out one of the business ideas that has been lurking in my head.

For inspiration, has the current climate or the last recession (2008) pushed you to start that business? If so, what was it? And was it all worth it (fail or success)

The 2008 crash caused me to lose my job and make the decision to go back to college. This crisis, and becoming a lone parent, has persuaded me to start my own business from home/online. Because after the crisis is over, I still need to be able to deal with illnesses etc. 14 days of isolating as a household made me realise that whatever in person work I do will always be vulnerable due to absences etc. Whereas I can be more flexible from home. Also, it's going to take a while to get my kids settled into/back into nursery and wraparound care so that's another consideration.

I was already self employed but mainly contracting. Losing 90% of my income due to COVID has made me want to restructure how I sell my services from an hourly rate to a monthly subscription. I’m feeling so motivated atm!

That's great. Subscription model is always the best. As long as you can justify the regular fee. All the best
