Considering not buying pram

I am 16 weeks pregnant and have an almost 3 year old. I rarely used a pram with my first. We used a wrap and then moved on to a mei tai and ergo. Then we gave away our pram. I do have a buggy that the childminder used when he reached a year old, while we continued slinging it! Now I use it primarily for carrying shopping, jackets etc.

Do many of you not have prams/pushchairs at all?

NO - mine were all enormous lumps by 5 months...barely holdable without back pain. If it works for you though, go for it.

I did have a pram, but didn't use it a lot, and hardly at all once DS was 14 months old - sold it when he was 2. I still carry DS when he is tired and we are out all day, and he is just 4, and no lightweight.

I don't have a pram. I never bought one because we knew we were moving from Asia back to London and no point shipping stuff like that (haven't ever bought a cot either) back with a long hiatus.

My DD is on the small side but at 19 months no plans to buy one. My DH carries her in an Ergo for naps and I carry her in a mei tai, the ergo or a Girasol wrap. She either goes on shoulders or walks when not in the wrap.

Works for us as I go out every day (SE London) and use the train which has thirty steps. Plus she sleeps in the wrap.

I'm glad I never bought one. Something a bit naff about excessive pram lust. And they are expensive. But then so are German woven wraps.

I have one but rarely use it. My mum does though, when she comes over.

If you have a buggy you/someone else can use if necessary, then don't see why you would bother.

Thanks guys. The only issue with a buggy is that you can't use it til they are a few months old. It was partly just curiousity that led me to ask the question. I really hate prams myself. I think it may partly be sling snobbery though. I'll wait and see how I get on.

I use the sling a lot, but wouldn't be without my pram/pushchair as it is great for carrying the shopping. Sometimes I go shopping with DS in pram and come home with him in sling, shopping in pram. I wouldn't normally drive anywhere to do my shopping, though. I would have struggled with just the sling, but DS is on the 98th centile for weight, so carrying him plus bags would be too much!

Now DS is bigger (5 months) he hates the pram, though, and yells when he goes out in it as he can't see the exciting things going on. In the sling he's happy as he can nose at everything, and yesterday's experiment with the pushchair seat was a success as he could see the world around him from there too.

I have enjoyed having a buggy which has both carrycot and pushchair seat. We used the carrycot instead of a Moses basket too.

angelgod - My pram had the opposite effect - my daughter loved being in it and hated being strapped close to me as she felt so restricted (I hope that's what it was anyway!. Once she could sit up she just wanted to be in her (forward-facing pram) and looking out at the world. I'm expecting her to ask me for a house key soon. She's 21 mnths ;)

I would think you could certainly get away without one, just wrapping, for the few months it would take for DC2 to be big enough for the buggy. That's what I'm hoping to do.
