Best sling for teeny mother?

Bit pre-emptive as we are only TTC number 2, but I wanted to see if anyone had any recommendations for slings that fit v. small women.

I never really got the hang of slinging DS, but I'm hoping to manage it with (potential) baby number two, especially as if I pg quickly I'll still have a buggy to load bags onto. I couldn't get on with the wilkinet, and I tried both a babasling and a ring sling but they swamped me. I am only 4'10".

Any ideas?

Thanks.

I'm quite small and find the Beco Butterfly very comfortable, and not too wide across the shoulders.

avoid the Ergo. I am 5ft 4 but a size 6 - 8 in UK sizes. It just doesn't fit my shoulders.

For buckle carriers, I'd go with the Manduca which you can use from birth. It is very well thought out. It is also dh friendly as the fabrics are quite low key.

for something just for you, the Connecta which are prettier.

I am a wrap girl. For someone who is short as well as petite, a size 5 wrap (4.2m) is long enough for the newborn carry which is the front wrap cross carry. (FWCC)

If you get a stretchy wrap (or make one), because they are made of jersey cotton, you can just cut the ends down until it's a comfortable length for you. You don't even have to hem them. Just don't forget when you cut it that your baby is going to get bigger, so you need to leave some excess!

I'd probably make one actually because then if it's too wide you can cut that part too without affecting the design of the sling. It's really simple to do. Just buy 4.5 or 5 metres of jersey cotton in any colour or pattern, cut into 3 long pieces each 20" wide, and put one of them on as a wrap (you can use a teddy or doll or just wrap it around you) and see how it feels - if it's too long or wide you can cut a little bit off at a time until it's just right.

Then either cut the others down to the same size so you have spares for the wash, or leave them at full size and pass them on to friends (if you don't know anyone who would want one try a local breastfeeding or new mums group)

I may be too late for the OP to see this but i am 4'11 and used - still use a coorie sling very successfully.
I had a mei tai - babyhawk but found it to be very bulky

Thanks everyone, - especially the info about making a wrap, that's absolutely brilliant bertiebotts, thank you very much. I did wonder if there was any point buying one as it's just a bit of fabric......!

Interesting foxytocin I love my Ergo but do find it a bit 'big' sometimes and just thought I was doing something wrong. I am same height as you but 8-10 so it prob just fits me... hmmmmm...
