Baby Bjorn or a Wrap Sling?

I have a Baby Bjorn which I did use with DD1 but didn't find particularly comfortable or user friendly. I am about to have DC2 and wondering if it will get more use as I still have DD1 aged 2 in her buggy most of the time and I'm resisting buying a double buggy/pram. Should I stick with the Baby Bjorn or is it worth investing in a wrap type baby sling? Any advice much appreciated.

A wrap every time. I have one for my 11 week old which I use every day. It's been great while I'm on the go with my toddler and need to be handsfree and was invaluable when she was in the unputdownable stage.

A wrap.

But get along to a slingmeet if you can and get loads of advice on wrapping cos it makes it loads easier if someone's shown you.

Agree on slingmeet, wish there was one locally to me. ALso have a look at this website as the videos of different carries are very helpful.

i tried a baby born and it was shit, too many buckles and ds was just hanging there.

tried a mei-tai baby hawk and that was loads better and i have just bought a moby wrap for the new baby due in a few weeks.
wraps feel much more secure and baby is closer to you.

im going to do the same as you, having ds in the buggy and carrying baby in a sling, much easier and ckeaper than buying a double buggy

Thanks for all your advice - I'm going to have a bit of a read through the other threads as I'm sure all the advice on which sling to get is in there - but how can I find out about a slingmeet near me in north west London? Can't believe how much there is to buy, I thought I had it all for baby 1 but obviously there are ways of making us part with even more money for number 2!

had a baby björn for dc1 and used it maybe 3 times as I found it too heavy and uncomfortable.
for dc2 I now have an ergo carrier and use it every day, dd 9kg does not feel too heavy and is very comfortable. sling meet is a good idea, I only got the ergo, because I could testdrive.

WRAP!!!! or mt or ssc but not Baby Bjorn

AngelDog · 29/05/2010 08:10

Definitely agree with getting a wrap rather than a Baby Bjorn.

If you google 'sling library' you can find out if there's anywhere nearby you can borrow a sling from. Google 'sling hire' and you will find companies where you can hire a sling by post to try them out.

An alternative to a full stretchy wrap would be something like a Close baby carrier.

Another vote for a wrap. Definitely.

Wonderstuff · 29/05/2010 12:25

Used my moby with dd until she was just over a year - and she wasn't small - could comfortably carry her for an hour at a time when she was one. Number 2 is on the way and am definitly going to sidestep the double buggy thing and use a sling for the baby.

BertieBotts · 29/05/2010 12:29

Yes yes get a wrap - you will love it!!

They are really easy to use as well because you put it on first and then put the baby in afterwards.

Lardass · 29/05/2010 12:36

Another vote for the Moby, my DD is six months and she loves it, will sleep for ages in it. Leaves me hands free to deal with DS1, and I really wish I'd had it from day 1, as I didn't get it until about 6 weeks ago. Loads of vids on you tube etc on how to use it, so don't get stressed if you can't find a sling meet. It takes a few goes to get used to it, then you're well away. Never tried baby bjorn tho so can't compare it to that, but loads more comfortable and secure than a ring sling in my opinion.

OhBuggerandArse · 29/05/2010 12:40

Or a Wilkinet as a good inbetweeny sort of carrier.

NomNomNom · 29/05/2010 17:32

Definitely a wrap sling! They're far more healthy for babies as their legs don't dangle straight down like they do in the Baby Björn but instead they sit in a froggy position.

jabberwocky · 29/05/2010 17:37

Get the wrap but don't discount the baby bjorn either. I liked it for times when baby was going to be in and out a few times - easier than with a wrap.
