Kari-me or Wilkinet ?

Which one would be best for a newborn (and best for my dodgy back?)

Does the Wilkinet put pressure on the baby's pelvis in the wrong way in the same manner as the babybjorn does?

Any other suggestions for a newborn (I want to use a sling a LOT for out and about!)

Kari-me every time! Or hug-a-bub - any stretchy wraparound will be way better than a wilkinet.

The Wilkinet does not cause the same pressrue as a regular carrier because the baby does 'sit' on it, rather than hang from it, but it's not as versatile and doesnt' give you as much support as the wraparound carriers. A hug-a-bub will last you longer - I found the kari-me was too stretchy for a heavy toddler, but the hug-a-bub was fine.

I loved my Kari-me. DD was in it for ages and always slept so happily that if she was ever unsettled I could just pop her in and go for a walk. I loved it when she was tiny as people wouldn't notice her then see this tiny head!! It never bothered my back but I did get very hot carrying her in it (born in March but a warm spring last year) and I never got on with it when I tried her in 'facing the world' position.

Kari Me. Loved mine, and then went on to get an Ergo which I loved too. Hate the way the Wilkinet looks, I have a friend who used hers for 2 babies but having tried my wrap has bought one for number 3.

The wilkinet worked very well for me - I found that it supported the weight of the baby around the ribcage, rather than hanging it off my shoulders, and this meant my back was able to cope with using it.

It can be used as a back carrier, a hip carrier and a front-facing-out carrier. I haven't used the Kari-Me, but wouldn't hesitate to recommend the wilkinet.

When it is all spread out for the baby to be put in, it lookes like some creature with lots of tentacles and no head - for which reason it was known as the Alien, in our family.

I have both and would say KariMe everytime. Wilki is fab but the Kari me is soo much more supportive to you and baby.

Def going for a Kari-me style - but now stuck between Kari-me and Hug-a-Bub.....!

Hug-a-Bub because of MrsWobbles comments (i.e. can be used for longer)?

Any other thoughts much appreciated!

Also, is a a suitable universal sling cover/blanket for the winter months... as I said, if possible, I want the sling to be the main form of transport when I am alone!

I haven't used a hug a bub so can't comment. But for a winter baby, I'd recommend a babywearing coat. Or buying a big coat and making one yourself

Scanning active convos, I mistook this for a baby name thread. Same thing happened with one about camping gear a while ago. I really must read more carefully.

I would go for a moby, they are the prettiest!

How old is your baby/when are you due? I would say that a stretchy wrap is definitely best for a newborn, but if you are going to be doing most of your carrying over the summer months then you might actually welcome the fact the wilkinet has less fabric, despite it being less supportive. When they are little they don't weigh as much anyway.
