I'm looking at getting a sling, am due dc2 in May so I'm wondering if any types of sling are better during the summer months.

Will we both roast in a wrap sling if it gets hot hot hot?

Am anticipating another clingy baby so we may be wearing it alot.

i have a variety of slings and for the summer i got a thin cotton ring sling so that i and the baby didnt get too hot.

also have a wilkinet, a wrap sling and the close baby sling (from that prog on channel four) it was also ok for summer but not as cool as the basic cotton ring sling

hth

Yes that helps, I've been thinking about a ring sling but the weather might just clinch it. Friends have a wrap that looks sooo cosy, but theirs have been winter babies.

i have had a july baby, an aug baby, a march baby and december baby, so have the whole variety

ring slings are great fro breastfeeding in and can still carry my almost two year old on my hip in the ring sling, he was almost 11lb at birth so is a BIG boy and he is fine in the sling i bought for him when he was still a bump

I got a gauze wrap and it was fine for over here (the moby was too hot) but I sweltered in it when I went abroad to a slightly hotter country

Yep, intending to bf so that would be handy too. Will see if I can find a not too thick one.

4madboys - do you have a favourite (sling not son)

i would get a gauze wrap.
calin bleu or gypsy mama

slipperthief · 14/03/2010 11:51

ooh, I love the gypsy mama gauze wraps - very funky summer colours.

a fave sling, um i prob use the ring sling the best, but i prefered the wilkinet or the close baby sling for when they were newborn etc. tbh i am a sling junkie and forever looking at and trying new ones, i have an ergo sling too.

ring slings are bar far the easiest i would say.

the wilkinet is great for back support and for heavy babies, the close baby carrier or any 'stretchy' type material slings are not as good for heavy babies simply because they give a bit with time. i have big babies tho, so it may not be an issue for those with a baby of a more average size

oh the mae tai (sp) slings are also quite good and not too hot for summer, but again i found them better for a baby over 4mths ish age.

4madboys · 14/03/2010 12:32

is now going off to look at the gypsy mama gauze wraps, dp will have a fit

4madboys · 14/03/2010 12:40

oh those are fab and the info says they are not too strechy which is good.

when we go for baby no 5 i may invest in one of those as my wrap sling is quite a heavy cotton and got very hot.

the only thing on the site i found was that is asked for your american dress size? that is normally a size bigger than your uk dress size isnt it? tho i am sure there are uk sites that sell them as well..goes off to google some more...

slipperthief · 14/03/2010 16:51

I think UK sizes are a couple up from US sizes, but they seem to be coming up under the name Wrapsody on UK sites.

Just found a shop not too far from us that sells them too, and even has a sling coffee morning next Saturday! Could be dangerous.

I'm sure dh won't mind too much if I just make sure any impulse buying isn't too floral (so that he can take a turn too of course)

I'm looking for some advice too on the same topic. I just bought a (used) kari-me, tried it on today and am really pleased with it. Already have dd 21mths & am 36 wks pg with dc2.

However, dh dropped spanner in the works by saying, aren't you and the baby going to get really hot in the summer??

Hadn't really thought about that problem till then....but I now remember why I stopped using baby bjorn with dd (who was born in June). It was hot.

Has anyone else used a Kari me through a UK Summer and if so, any tips?
I am thinking if I am just wearing a breastfeeding vest top and baby is just in a vest & nappy. Would that normally stay cool enough for baby (and not too sweaty for me) or do I need to be buying something else (a gauze wrap as suggested above perhaps)

Thanks

Baby legs are useful for wrap type slings. I have a Sa-Be wrap (which I adore) and in the summer I'll be using baby legs for his exposed...well...legs. And next to nothing when it's super hot for the rest of him that's wrapped up.
