Boba or Scootababy?

I have a tall two-year-old who isn't keen on her buggy, but does get tired sometimes if we're out without a buggy despite being a strong walker (we walk/get public transport most of the time). She's about 2 stone/28 pounds.

Both of these carriers look good as a backup option. I am swayed by the Boba - it looks like a nice, simple, streamlined option - but wonder if the Scootababy might be a better option since dd will want to be up and down a lot and the hip carry looks handier than a back carrier (I won't generally have help getting her into a carrier). Is the Scootababy OK for your back with a bigger child, though?

Does anyone have experience of either of these, or similar, with a child of this size?

I have a Boba - my daughter is 13 months and a healthy 20lb! She's definitely a buggy-adverse baby, but seems really happy when she's in this carrier or wrap.

It's really simple to use - I can get her on my back myself - it's just a case of popping her on my hip, putting the carrier over her, and then bouncing her and carrier around to my back. Needless to say though I don't have to do it again and again and again - yet!

I can't comment on the Scootababy because I don't have and have never tried one!!!!!

Good luck deciding xx

Hello mummytohope - really good to get your input, especially on the back carry question. Did you get your Boba in the UK?

No problem sarimillie, glad I could help!

I did, sort of get my carrier here in the UK . The truth is I actually run www.b2boutique.co.uk!!! We have £5 off the Boba if you become a Facebook fan before Friday 12th....

Please be assured I don't try and use this forum as a sales opportunity but to give my own personal advice on carriers. I tried about 6 different types when my daughter was little, and since she turned 8-9 months have tried for back carries: a Babyhawk Mei Tei (found this type a little tricky), a Patapum (another good option), an Ergo (great! but better for I'd say to 6-18 months), and the Boba. I like the Boba's high back (although my daughter is always keen to get her arms up and over it straight off!), and I like the style. It's very earthy-simple!

I'd love to hear other peoples views about the Scootababy - looks like a really unique hip carrier.... x

Seems like you've got a good product there! I am still wavering between the Scootababy and Boba, tho quite proud of myself for narrowing it down that far in view of the amount of choice out there. I really didn't think there would be so many options for bigger children.

I know! It's a minefield isn't it!!! Trust me, it's not easy for me to make product choices either...but it's a good excuse to buy loads of carriers with a hubby's blessing . And I also think you've done marvellously to get down to 2

I think what I've found out is there's definitely not a one-for-all solution - even though I'd like to say there is!! I always recommend a stretchy wrap for a newborn-1 year, but then there's some who just can't be done with all the tying.....and so on.

Just get in touch if you've got any questions on the products I do know about . I'm so the local sling guru ...

Ah - after reading a few reviews I suddenly wondered if I'd weighed my ds right- and, sure enough, she's 32lbs rather than 28. Which takes us quite close to the 37lbs weight limit for the Scootababy - does anyone know how crucial that is? And when they're really heavy, would a back carry one be better?

That would be dd ...
