Hi, my DD is 14 months and I still front carry her comfortably, she about 25th centile though so smaller than average.

I can do a back carry really easily without a thick coat but the last few weeks have been tricky as I can't scoot her round so easily. It is worth looking at youtube for ergo back carry and you'll see how people get their DC's onto their backs. I know that other carriers have internal harnesses but I think that might be more difficult when they want up and down all the time.

The ergo comes in a little bag and if you folded it into the bag it fits in a buggy shopping basket. On my Bee there would be loads of room left and not much at all in my Maclaren. I suppose it depends on the type of buggy you have!

I haven't seen a patapum in real life so hopefully someone else can share their wisdom.

-Well I still sometimes carry my 19mo LO on the front but only occasionally. It's very comfy but her head gets in the way

What? An ergo? I don't know any sling that becomes redundant in a back carry...apart from maybe a stretchy wrap...certainly not an ergo - I think it comes into it's own on the back actually. It's v annoying and cumbersome on the front.
Back carrying is not difficult but it is certainly something that has to be learned. Once learned it's so easy you'll sling them up there at a moment's notice, no probs

pretty much all slings will fit in the shopping basket

FINALLY

anyone had a patapum and can compare

Only ever had a toddler patapum and I preferred the ergo, but it's a personal thing
