What do you do about clothes when wearing a wrap ?

I've posted this in style and beauty too, but essentially I have no idea what to wear

DS2 is 6 weeks, what do I dress him in ? I'm struggling because we mostly wear the wrap outside. So I have to avoid winter coats in order to keep him asleep transferring him to the sling from the carseat, so he's wrapped in a blanket and hat in the car, and just in a vest and long sleeved top otherwise. But I'm sure I'm still overheating him.

As for me, I just can't get it right - I'm either too hot or too cold ! I've bought a wooly cardi for over the top of the wrap, and some skinny jeabs and boots in an effort to stay stylish... teaming it with a long sleeved top under the wrap which rides up around my waist and drives me potty

what do you all do ?

you could try a babywearing coat - they often have them for sale on naturalmamas or on the uk babywearing swop site?

but generally yes it is hard, you will always feel a bit too chilly or a bit warm. being close to you will provide him with lots of heat, so don't worry too much about him getting cold
another helpful thing is a pashmina that you can wrap around him and yourself and then just whip off when necessary
but at 6 weeks is he really hard to get back to sleep if he wakes up a bit transferring him? it's a distant memory now but i thought they just nodded off again when they needed to?

He does go back to sleep really quickly actually, if he even wakes up - but wouldn't if I had to start unzipping coats or removing snowsuits. I'm wondering if a sheepskin in his carseat would help keep him warm, along with a blanket on top ?

Hat and scarf are a must I think, the pashmina is a good idea too, thanks

At the moment I don't add any outdoor clothes to my baby (except a hat) when I go out with him in his sling, so he is usually in a short sleeved vest and a long sleeved bodysuit / long sleeved vest and some dungarees. I wear my normal coat open over the sling, and use a pashmina-type thing to add an extra layer of draught-proofing around the necks. I usually just wear a t-shirt as I find he keeps me toasty (and vice versa) and we get a bit sweaty if I add any more layers.

But I am usually using my Close baby carrier which basically involves three thick layers of jersey cotton over his entire body with no gaps round the side as you would get with a baby bjorn type carrier.

Does his body feel too hot when you take him out after he's been in the wrap? My baby's face often gets a bit hot and sweaty since he presses it against my neck but the rest of him feels fine.

This weird inbetweeny weather we're having can't be helping either! Perhaps you'll find it easier when it gets consistently cold and you can both just bundle up in a million enormous jumpers.

DS was born in October and I used to dress him in a sleepsuit and vest when we were using the sling. I would carry a hat in my changing bag because he hated having a hat on indoors but when we were outside didn't seem to mind (it must have been keeping him warmer) so I would whip it on and off when we went in and out of shops, houses etc. Then I wore my normal coat around both of us, it didn't cover him completely but did keep me warm, he kept me warm on my front (like a little radiator ) and I would feel his hands/feet/neck every now and again to make sure he seemed comfortable.

However I tended to use the pushchair if there was ice on the ground as I was paranoid about slipping over and injuring him, so I suppose that was when it was really cold.

In the carseat I would put blankets on him since most people put the heaters on in their cars anyway, so I could take them off if he seemed to be getting too hot.

January DS used to have a vest/sleepsuit (or similar 2 piece outfit with socks. Hat for when outside, and babaylegs to bung on if it feels a bit chilly still.

My babywearing coat really helped as he rarely needed outdoor clothes under that (except the hat), even when really cold

As for me, I used to like a nice 3/4 sleeved breastfeeding top, so I could feed without yanking up my top under the sling or having to take the (kari-me) wrap off.

I used a pushchair when it was icy too. I'm good enough at falling over anyway without a baby to unbalance me!

Vest and babygro on baby - cardigan if it's cold enough to need one on indoors.

I just wear a t-shirt with Kari-Me tied over, then cardigan etc. on top. So all layers bar the t-shirt can be removed without disturbing baby.

For coats, I have a Peekaru vest (I think it's called - was called Nori when I bought it). It is fab, as I can wear it over a cardi if it's not very cold, or add my own coat/raincoat over the top as required. There is a pocket in the side which perfectly takes a tiny fold up brolly and a hat, which keeps the baby completely weatherproofed except in monsoon conditions (when I use a Suses Kinder rain poncho over everything else, and which I can keep folded in my bag)

For in the car warmth I use blankets, with usually a cardigan over (hooded ones are best because if the weather is foul out you can flip it up if trying to get a sleeping baby out of carseat and into your carrier and coat.
