Baby wearing at home

I’m looking for a recommendation for a carrier to use around the house for DS. It’s mainly to free up my hands so I can take him around the house with me when doing jobs - tidying up, carrying bags of laundry etc. He’s 6 months but I’d foresee using it for a while.

Up until now we’ve been using a Close Caboo but I’m finding now that the weight is too much on my shoulder. We have a Manduca for out and about, which I like but from an organisational perspective it needs to stay in the car! I’ve been considering a woven wrap for the flexibility and adjustability but am concerned it might be fiddly.

I’m only 5ft 1 and petite build so need something that can go down small...with the manduca I usually cross the back straps otherwise they slide off my shoulders.

Any thoughts? Budget is flexible but don’t want to spend a fortune if there’s a cost effective option!

If your happy with the Manduca why don’t you buy a second hand one for in the house. You can sell it on again when you are finished with it.

At 6 months you can carry him on your back which you'll find a lot less 'weighty' and he'll be less in the way. Not sure Caboos can do back carries though, or Manduca? I used an Ergobaby mostly but you could look at Hoppediz Bardolino, Tula or Connecta. Two friends seem to prefer the Connecta but I'm not sure about cost.

No, the caboo doesn't do a back carry. It's stretchy fabric too so just too so even if it did I'd be struggling with the weight I think.

I like the sound of the petite straps on the Connecta, wonder if these make much difference?

Is there anywhere you'd recommend looking for second hand @Jackshouse. Obviously ebay but any Facebook groups etc you know of?

You might find good second hand baby stuff on Gumtree, if you post on all you're local selling pages on Facebook what you're looking for someone might be able to help too.

Slings for sale - new and preloaded
But I find my local sling selling site is better value. Or ask on a local sling sale if anyone has a Manduca for sale.

New and preloved

Try Slings and Things FSOT on Facebook.

RaspberryBlonde · 19/01/2019 11:58

I'll have a look at those... Thank you everyone!

If you have a particularly petite build it can be hard to find a carrier that has straps that go small enough; meh dais or half buckles can be really helpful, as they fit around you as you are. ring slings might also be a good option for quick up and downs around the house - here's how to use one - can be used with bigger kids too! great visibility.

some good value ring slings are the Lenny Lamb ones which are also long lasting and brilliant value for money - sling-spot.co.uk/product-category/ring-slings/ for example.

I used to love a ring sling for around the house when mine was about this age because they're sort of tucked under your arm and can see what you are doing. He loved it too! You can often pick them up reasonably cheaply too. They aren't too fiddly either as you can just tighten or loosen as you need.

RaspberryBlonde · 27/01/2019 18:48

I hadn't thought of a ring sling, may see if our sling library has one.

Tried the hip carry in our manduca the other day; it was trickier than I expected and so far DS is not a fan.
