Which Ergo sling? Petite and living in hot climate

I want to get an Ergo sling. I've only seen the original one in store so can't compare (not that they're easy to test with a bump in the way) and I don't have access to a sling library. Obviously, ideally I'd wait till baby arrived but I'm overseas and can save a lot of money by getting a second hand one in advance so I'm planning to do this and then sell on as necessary.

I'm dithering about the best options - any thoughts or experience of these issues? The original one is cheaper but I'd invest in the Omni/260/adapt if it's worth it.

Mesh / cool air versions?

  • I live somewhere with warm springs and very hot summers so this seemed like a new brainer, then I read a review that mentioned the mesh isn't soft like the cotton so is less comfy to wear and rubs baby's bare skin (if baby needs long sleeves and trousers surely it defeats the point of getting the cool version).

Best for petite people?
I'm short and small framed, is it worth getting an Omni or Adapt with the crossover back straps? In practice, can you crossover the straps on the original? If you're small have you had any issues?

Not sure on the different versions sorry, but but in the past there have been a lot of fake ergos available so watch out if buying second hand. Can be very difficult to spot so advice is to ask for original receipt to show purchase.

Will any postal sling libraries send out to where you are? May be worth a look.

Thanks @Fivechukchuks . I've looked at a guide to spotting fakes but asking for a receipt is a good tip. I think I'll need to risk it though as the price difference between new and second hand is so big.

I'm abroad and unfortunately sling libraries don't seem to be a thing here - to be honest I haven't noticed many people baby wearing generally but that could just be me being unobservant.

The Adapt was made for us petite people. They've made the straps able to cross your back so that it hugs over narrow shoulders. That's why I chose this particular one. And it's all adjustable so suitable from newborn-preschool without having to have a separate insert.

I've been really happy with it.

Thanks for confirming that crossover straps are a good idea, @INeedNewShoes. The lack of insert is appealing. Do you have the cotton version? How have you found it in the summer?

Ah sorry. I missed the bit in your OP about living in a hot country. I think you will need a mesh carrier. When it is above 20 degrees I would only have DD in there for an hour tops and above 25 degrees I don't use it at all.

Both DD and I get hot using the carrier on warm days.

Ok that is very good to know! We have proper winters but it's over 20° for a large part of the year so maybe mesh would be my best option.
