Is there a baby carrier that you put on first and then put a baby in?

I’ve got a really good sling, but it’s one that you have to put the baby in first and then put on. Are they all like that?

I want something I can use straight from the car. Where I don’t have access to a flat space to lie baby on. Does such a thing exist? Or do I need to invent it? Baby is now seven months old, if that makes any difference.

Almost any sling, surely? I think one you put the baby in first sounds very unusual, I'm never seen one like it.
I like Rose&Rebellion but you could also look at Ergo, Connecta, or any other buckled carrier.

Or ring slings, woven wraps (though wraps are a bit trickier.)

I've always used buckles this way. There's also ways to pre-tie a wrap but you'd have to Google it.

Stretchy wraps you put on completely first then put Baby in but 7 months is a bit old for this. Buckle carriers you generally put the waist strap on hold baby against your chest, put arms through so carrier is now supporting Baby, fasten buckle. Lots of you tube videos - try Lillebaby or Ergo

MagicFajita · 26/04/2018 16:50

The K'tan?

You hold baby to your chest when you already have the sling around your neck/waist , then you seat your baby in the sling.

People give it endless stick on here but the BabyBjorn does this, much more easily than some of the others imo.

MollyDaydream · 26/04/2018 16:55

Baby born isn't supportive enough to carry a 7+ month old though.

SoyDora · 26/04/2018 16:55

All the slings I’ve owned you put on first before putting the baby in.

EssentialHummus · 26/04/2018 16:57

It’s to 12kg molly - I guess it depends on the baby but I’m typing this with 7 month old DD in the Bjorn Grin.

the phil n teds airlight you put on then unzip the middle, put baby in then zip back up. there are a few different options for you, I like a ringsling for an in and out of the car sling.

If you can pick up a second hand beco butterfly they go on first then baby second, there are some ways to wear a woven wrap that pops baby in and out but any buckle really should be able to transfer baby from car seat into your sling before fastening and you do tend to get a much better fit when you're putting baby in the sling before fastening.

Thanks for all of those recommendations! I’ve obviously just bought the wrong one.

The one I use at the moment is a Wilkinet. I promise I haven’t just made it up. I do like it but it’s quite restrictive needing to put baby in first. Thinking about it, I think that was maybe bought because DH is on the larger side so we wanted something we can both wear. That’s not so much an issue now. I’ll have a google.

Ah yes, I know the one you mean - it is quite an unusual design and most other styles will be easier.

Essential - fair play if it suits you, I wouldn't like to have my 8kg 7 month old on my front now and physically wouldn't manage it with a 12 or 18 month old.

CAAKE · 26/04/2018 18:35

Haven't RTFT but he Connecta might suit.

Mybabystolemysanity · 26/04/2018 18:39

This is totally the opposite of what you're asking for, but I'm having a great time with a littlelife ranger backpack carrier. I just put it on the ground and drop DD in, then swing it up like a rucksack. Very comfortable. Am super impressed for the price.

Sammilouwho · 26/04/2018 18:47

We have a Caboo and love that, it’s a ring sling which you put on first and then put baby in after, I walk around with the sling on most of the time so I can just pop DD in when she wants.

Buxbaum · 28/04/2018 22:13

Sorry to be pedantic but a Caboo isn’t a ring sling. It’s a stretchy sling with rings to adjust it. A ring sling is a single or double length of fabric with two rings at the end, usually worn on one shoulder with baby tummy-to-tummy or on the hip.

timeisnotaline · 28/04/2018 22:16

Caboo is a stretchy and for younger babies anyway. I remember struggling through the airports solo travelling with ds in the caboo - at 7mo he was way too heavy for it, my back was in agony. We bought a manduca as soon as I got back.

I love my BabyBjorn, frowned upon by some but both of mine have loved it and then at 6 months move onto the Stokke back carrier as you put them in it and then on your back.
