What do I need?

My baby (ok toddler, she's 14 months bit not toddling yet) isn't the biggest fan of slings but is a clingy soul who loves to be carried. I think a wrap / sling that holds her on my hip would be very helpful but i cant seem to find what I am imagining in my head. I want something that supports her staying on my hip, not just a hip seat thing. What product is it that I'm thinking of?

I think you want a woven wrap or a ring sling for a hip carry. There's also a few soft structured carriers that you can do a hip carry in. Try going to www.itsaslingthing.co.uk - you can search for carriers suitable for a hip carry and then rent one to try.

A soft structured carriers suitable for a hip carry is probably the easiest thing if you aren't used to using a wrap btw.

Ring slings are pretty straightforward for a toddler. I struggled with one for my son when he was a baby, but as a toddler they made much more sense, and screw up nice and small for carrying about. You can pick them up second hand pretty cheaply from a whole bunch of sling selling groups on Facebook.

I have a ring sling for hip carries with my toddler and I loved it, BUT it does put a hell of a strain on you as you aren't carrying the weight centrally, IYSWIM. I find that using it for more than a very short period of time aggravated my SPD (which I thought had gone!) and have had to retire it, which is extremely irritating as I wanted it to go in my backpack when we cycled to places. I can still use my soft structured carrier with no problems but the ring sling is only for occasional use now.

That said, ds is built like a tank so that does also have an impact. If you have a smaller child I'd imagine it's less of a strain.
