Lillebaby, Ergobaby or Baby Bjorn One? Or another carrier?

Hi all! I'm quite petite and worry that all of these may swamp me a bit. Also don't want me or the baby to roast in it!

Any pros and cons for all? Which did you choose and why?

I don't have a great back and also had a c-section so don't want it to be too tricky over my scar. Just want something I can v easily put on myself that my baby will find v comfortable!

I am under 5 foot and had a section.
I used a stretchy wrap or ring sling for the first 4 months then gradually transitioned to a petite Connecta.
I went to my local sling library several times and tried a LOT of slings and carriers. Ones that didn't work for me were Ergo, Manduca, Beco and BB, this seems to be because as a smaller person the more padded the carrier the more it seemed to be wearing me rather than me wearing it!

JohnLapsleyParlabane - I also had a c-section and that's what worries me a little (as I'm not tall) - that the carriers may rub on my scar Confused.

I don't know the Connecta! Am checking it out online now...

It definitely sounds like I need to get myself to a sling library. I'm guessing they probably have every sort to try on? I hope there's one near me.

This has all been so useful! I know which ones to ask to try on.

Once you get the hang of a ring sling, they are a doddle to throw on and go. There are loads of YouTube tutorials to watch as well.

I am 5ft4 and found the connecta far more comfortable than the ergo.

I have a 4 yr old and a 10 month old. I loved a stretchy when they were tiny. Had a moby for no1 which was great, but got a second hand caboo for No2 which was even better!

As they've got bigger I prefer my connecta over the ergo to start with. My H preferred the ergo with insert to the stretchies, but i didn't get on with it at all!

With no1 I used the moby up to around 6 months, then the connecta until about 18 months and after that the ergo up until he was 3+

No2 is totally rejecting the ergo at the moment. She's happy in the connecta, but won't tolerate the ergo at all. Hopefully she'll get over that!

I ADORE our lillebaby, but bearing in mind that I'm almost 6ft and DH is 6ft4, and we bought it because it was the only one long enough in the body for both of us (so long in fact that I struggle a bit to sit down with it on if needed) - I'm not sure it would be much good for you?! Worth a try though (think they are stocked in John Lewis) as it's totally brilliant in every other respect, and great for bad backs as has additional lumbar support as well as spreading weight well over hips and shoulders, with lovely padded straps and it's very adaptable. It's also good for baby hips too! I also agree with not even looking at a baby bjorn.

I got the boba 4g as I had a summer baby and the ergo newborn infant looks soooo hot! The boba is easy to put on and I think adjusts well for petite people - I love the chest strap (having since tried various toddler carriers that I really didn't get on with.

I have an ergo which I used when my 5 year old was a baby. I am now using it for my next daughter who is 20 months. I have found them easy to use, now my daughter is a toddler (and from when she was big enough) I put it on at the front, do it up and twist/swing her round to the back where she will usually fall asleep.

A cheap stretchy wrap is a great start. Will be nowhere near your section scar and holds baby really snug into you. Once you've decided that both you and the baby like slings (not all do!) then you can try some out at your local sling library/hire a few online. I tried a tula, connecta and an ergo before settling on a beco soleil. I wouldn't have managed the beco until my section would was well healed though.

WendlaBergmann · 31/12/2016 19:28

I love wraps - and adored my Moby when DS was tiny. I have since had an Ergo and a Tula toddler, both of which we've used loads. I only don't sling him now because he wants to walk everywhere.

I'm 5'4" and had a C-section. I was wrapping about 4-6 weeks later easily.

The people slating the baby bjorns are going on outdated info. The ONE is great, does the frog legs and is easy to get on and off. I still use it to back carry my nearly 2yo. She has actually had hip scans due to family history and all is fine. The ONE supports the hips in parent facing and back carry modes.

I would def go to a sling library if I were you. I couldn't get to one but watched heaps of videos to see how easy they were to get on and off and then went to a shop to try them. Good luck.

Thed0gs · 31/12/2016 20:08

There's also a website called itsaslingthing where you can hire slings for a period of time if you can't get to a sling library or don't have one local.... I used them for a while as I couldn't decide on the right carrier and wanted to try it out for at least a couple of weeks (and on very long dog walks).

My favourites were the Connecta and the Nova; I eventually settled for and bought a Nova Onbu.

MuppetsChristmasCarol · 31/12/2016 20:36

@Nickname1989 The insert is done by weight - if you have a big 10 week old, you probably don't need it. I had a small baby and he outgrew it quickly.

MuppetsChristmasCarol · 31/12/2016 20:37

@Nickname1980 rather, not 1989!

MuppetsChristmasCarol · 31/12/2016 20:42

I can imagine that the ergo baby might rub round a c section scar. A stretchy wrap shouldn't rub at all though.

From hearing friends recommendations, lillebabies and NCT Caboo also get good reviews. I really recommend trying them on. I'm very slender and use the ergo baby on all the tightest settings, if you're absolutely tiny, a wrap or sling might be a better fit.

When I said the baby Bjorn I didn't realise there was a new style. A friend has the dangly legs one and I wince every time I see it!
