Carrier with chronic back pain

Baby carrier recommendations please!
Due in 6 weeks and have a nearly 4 yr old who I will be taking to preschool everyday so would like a good baby carrier to make school runs easier.

I have chronic back pain and so for me the biggest issue is that it needs to be really comfortable and not worsen my back problems. Think I need one of the more structured carriers as opposed to cloth slings.

Any recommendations? I know the ergo is very popular and a friend of mine loves her Connecta. (Plus the liberty prints are cute!) what else?

I know you said you think you want something structured, but I am still going to suggest having a look at the papoozle. It was good with a new born, comfy, secure, easy to put on and most the weight is on your hips and the shoulder straps are wide so the bit of load that is there is spread.
Now my baby is bigger I have moved onto the ergo bit that is good once they can hold their head.

The ergobaby was hands down the most useful thing we bought for our baby. Several friends have tried ours and then bought one for themselves despite having already bought different kinds of slings. Maybe try a local sling library to see what is most comfortable on your back if you can though

Thanks.

I've heard the ergo could have been better if it had crossing straps at the back which th connecta has

By far the best for a bad back would be a wrap. You can spread the load really well and move straps into comfortable positions easily which you can't do easily with structured ones. They are trickier to put on, but once you've tried it a few times you'll find it no problem.

I love my boba as it sits a bit higher and is v adjustable. Can use from newborn to preschool

I have a bad back and found the Moby wrap very comfortable for the first 2 or 3 months, then moved on to a connecta. We also had an ergo, but I never found it very comfortable - you seem to need quite broad shoulders.
With the connecta I was able to carry my dd until she was 14 months, although never longer than an hour.
Good luck.

I've got a Beko Gemini, it has a big wide waist strap and is the first I found that really supported us both enough. We might get a connecta when DS is older, if he grows out of this one for any reason.

If you want a soft structured carrier then personally I'd recommend the Manduca over the Ergo - it'll last longer as will fit a bigger child. But I agree that if you can get the hang of wraps, they may well be the best thing for weight distribution. So you have a sling meet or sling library nearby?

agree with Duggee, if you are able to have a consultation also you will probably be able to find something that's very comfortable.
