I love using my Connecta and it's the only sling I use at the moment, despite having a wide selection of others! I imagine that at some point I'm supposed to use a back carry rather than a front carry but the prospect scares me a little. If there's going to come a time when I can no longer use a front carry, will it be because my DS has become too big/heavy and (for some reason I don't understand) a back carry is better for heavier babies/toddlers? Or is it more likely to be because my DS will no longer tolerate facing me because the view's not as good and he's too inquisitive but otherwise a front carry would continue to work for years?
At the moment he's an average sized 9 month old and seems content in the front carry and I can carry him for hours without feeling it, despite my small stature (I'm pretty much the size of a 12 year old) and my lack of physical strength generally speaking. If it's pretty certain that a back carry will become necessary at some point in the future, would you advise practising the back carry now whilst he's fairly compliant rather than wait until it becomes an absolute necessity at which point he might fight the process, making it so much more difficult for me to learn? I'm worried that if I try a back carry before it's really necessary then he might like it so much that he decides to refuse front carries (I love front carries because I can see his face all the time and chat to him so I was hoping to carry in with them for as long as possible). On the other hand I'm not a natural when it comes to slings (despite having so many) so it will probably take me ten times longer to master the skill of a back carry than it would be for an average person...
Sorry if these concerns seem a bit unnecessary but I have a habit of worrying about things endlessly so any advice/experiences would be gratefully received. Thanks
