Advice on purchasing SSC

Hi all,

DD is 5 months, I was wearing her in a baby bjorn before I did some research and realised they aren't great for baby. So I popped down to my local sling library, we tried a stretchy wrap but she was far too wriggly so I'm now borrowing a Manduca.

Really liking the Manduca so far, my hubby is put off by the plastic buckles which he says 'don't look as safe' as the bjorn, I don't really agree with him on this.

So I've decided an SSC is the way to go, shall I purchase the Manduca? I've also been recommended rose and rebellion, any good? Or ergos but I've heard there are many fakes out there.

Any advice would be appreciated :)

I bought an Ergo and took it back to JL within a couple of days, it was awful on my back and you just couldn't adjust it properly. Bought a Boba 4g instead and it's heaven on my back, really. It's so adjustable in so many places and you can move the chest strap up and down to fit properly too, it even has wee stirrup things!

The buckles are safety tested and iirc the Manduca has a little button that you have to press in to release the waist belt so it's pretty safe.

Ergos are good but tend to fall off the shoulders if you are petite, you also need one that lets you do the straps up tight so you can get your DC up nice and high with a back carry so that they can see. Personally I prefer the Manduca over the Ergo for fit.

I found the rose and rebellion to be very wide in the shoulder, fine before I lost my baby-weight and was a size 14/16, not so great when I'm smaller.

If the Manduca fits and you like it then I would buy it. I had 1 sling for a while, then it needed to go in the wash and I was lost without it so I bought another and tried a different brand. They seem to keep their price well second hand so if you do make a mistake its not the end of the world.

I have a Boba 3G which I thought was great for front carries but have found it not quite so comfortable for back.

I currently have a wrap conversion Ring Tei on the way and I'm hoping that this will be more comfortable.

I have heard very good things about Tula's but haven't used one myself.

Do you have a sling library near where you live? You could try them out and see what you prefer.

I've only ever tried a connecta as far as sscs go (cheapest ssc but I didn't like the lack of padding on the waist band) but I prefer my hop-tye as every time dh used the connecta it took me ages to get the straps adjusted 'just right' for me. DH uses the hop-tye regularly too although we're now wanting another ssc as he's not confident back carrying in the hop-tye. We're considering either a manduca or a tula.

Thanks for your replies. I do have a local sling library, that's where I'm borrowing the Manduca from so I might try a few more models before settling!

I'm definitely not petite! Currently a size 20 so I have the opposite problem, I'm also very tall.

I tried the Manduca with a back carry yesterday and I was finding dd slips quite far down my back and the front strap ends up almost around my neck which doesn't seen quite right. Also with the front carry I use the straps crossed over, I tried with straight straps but it feels very insecure, like the straps are going to slip forward and off. Although I'm not sure that's a Manduca problem or just my shape, my back is quite curved at the top.

Hi. Just wondering if I could join in. I have a stretchy wrap for my 2 month old which I love for in the house but I'm finding it too difficult to take on and off when out and about.

I think I need a SSC, but not sure whether to get a connecta, beco gemini or manduca. I'm a size 12 but with pretty big boobs which tend to get in the way! The connecta looks appealing because it wraps up smaller but I'm wondering whether it would be uncomfortable as baby gets bigger. I'm not sure I want to back carry as my main motivation is to have hands free for my 2.5 year old who will be more independent by the time baby is big enough for that.
Thanks
