Sling obsession

Hi

This is my first post so hello all.

My wife feels the need to constantly be on the look out and buy a new sling for our children. At first I thought that we were just buying the wrong ones but now I feel that it has become an obsession. It is always a topic of conversation and it is taking over her life.

Is this normal or am I being unreasonable?

Bit of both to be honest.

With my DS i felt that i always wanted to atleast try other prams so i would buy and sell until i found one that just worked for me and like your wife it was a source lf conversation a lot of thd time too.

With my DD I'm constantly buying, selling, trading or borrowing cloth nappies but again i suspect when I've found the "perfect" nappy my curiosity will be stifled.

I do think Its normal to become compulsive about trying to find sonething better and newer but i don't think it should be your whole life and of its having a negative effect on your finances its definately not right.

I'm not sure...I love slings and different ones suit different purposes if you see what I mean (i.e a Mei Tai is easier to wear over a coat and I have a 'pod' if DS wants to be up on my back for a quick cuddle when we are at home...etc etc).

I have noticed that some people turn it into a bit of a hobby and do get really into collecting particular wraps, or spend lots of money converting their wraps into a dream carrier. I've seen people with a huge 'stash' of wraps in all different shades...personally I am a bit of a minimalist so I don't get the whole collecting thing, I guess there is no harm in it if you can afford it.

I expect my DH has wondered at times why on earth I am buying another one or selling some others, they sell on for a good price. I have about 3 on the go at the moment and another 2 waiting for me to sell because DS has outgrown them.

Also, there's a whole 'community' aspect to it, I think. I am in about four buying/selling slings facebook groups (although I'm almost 100% just window shopping) and there's a real culture of trying this sling, that sling, acquiring a whole 'stash' as pp said, lusting obsessively over this expensive, that hard-to-find one...

It probably is v boring, other people's obsessions tend to be, but if it's a hobby of sorts for her and makes her happy then I don't see what the issue is. Some people buy slings, some people buy shoes, some people follow a football team or current affairs...

Well they are so pretty. I window shop a lot for slings -- it's more like clothes shopping so I would guess she's not doing it for the children exactly! Much better resale value than clothes though.
