What is the best pouch sling?

I am looking for a sling to use when taking dd to pre-school with a newborn, we have to park a little walk away and there are steps up to the school so the pram won't be an option. My requirements are for it to be easy to put on quickly and comfortable for the newborn who will (fingers crossed) be here in December!

Any suggestions?

Pouch slings are generally not recommended anymore, they are less safe for the baby (I assume we are talking about the same thing anyway, baby is carried hammock style across your body in a cradle position). Padded pouch slings are especially a no-no.

For a newborn a stretchy wrap is a great option but if you don't get on with wrapping it can be a faff. A close caboo carrier is a good alternative to a moby wrap.

I use a structured carrier and I find it easy to get on and off. Mine is a Bondolino, a Manduca is another similar style. It is suitable from birth provided your baby is a decent weight.

A ring sling is quick and easy to put on, and you can have the baby in the tummy to tummy cuddle position which is very comfy if the baby wants a sleep. Only problem is that the weight is only on one of your shoulders not both shoulders so fine for short trips but less so for longer use. Apparently good for nursing in the sling but I have never mastered sling feeding myself.

Oh why are pouch slings not recommended anymore? I had one with ds2 and he loved it 4.5 years ago and was planning on using it again in the new year when dc3 arrives. It was a cotton one I think peanutshell was the name.

Oh really? I have read that bag slings aren't recommended anymore but the pouch slings are much more shallow in fabric so don't pose the same risk..I might be wrong though? They are still selling some in mothercare but only one kind.

If not the ring sling does sound quite good? Which type though?

Depends on your budget really, how much were you looking to spend?

I'm happy to spend whatever I need, anything up to £100 I think?
