Which of these 2 slings?

My DD4 is 2 weeks old. I've got a baby Bjorne carrier, but never really liked using it... I just didn't like the dangly legs for baby and never feeling the head was properly supported.

I tried a one-size ring sling with DD3, again didn't get on with it. This time I didn't like it only being on one shoulder (made my already painful back / pelvis even more painful) and again didn't feel 100% safe. It was also quite difficult to use,

I'm now looking at either a Moby wrap or a Close Sling. I can't afford to buy both to try out and cannot find a sling meet or library close by. So I need the wise guidance of MN!

Many thanks :)

I had a Close with DD1. It was good as I had little confidence with tying and the rings meant you didn't need to. But the long tails of fabric are annoying, particularly if you are short.

I would go with the Moby personally, if you are willing to tie. It is more infinitely adjustable for a good fit. And the lack of long tails mean it is easier to leave on even if you pop the baby out.

Actually, with DD2 I had a Didymos woven wrap. Not as soft and not stretchy so not quite as good for a newborn, but because it is more supportive it has a longer life span. I can still happily use it now at 14 months.

Moby all the way. Very easy to tie, lots of positions as your child gets bigger, washes well

Loved mine, passed it onto two friends since

Love my moby. Close just doesn't look quite as comfortably secure, somehow. The tying really is v easy too.

I'm a shorty so the long fabric would be an issue - I have this with the ring sling too. Really gets in the way!

I've kept looking and the Moby looks best. Mamas and papas have a flex (I think) which also looks good but is very pricey. Dh has finally agreed to let me order the Moby :-) hope it works well!!

I had decided on a Moby but a Close parent one came up for sale locally at a good price so I've bought that instead, have only tried it out with dolly as baby not due for 5 weeks but I love it already, so comfy and soft and the back bits already arranged in the right place so I don't have to faff with it. I have used other types of carrier with previous 2 dc and I am pretty sure the close parent one is going to suit me just fine. There is extra lengths of material hanging down and I am short, but I suspect I can double tie it round myself again once I don't have a big belly and am back to pre pregnancy size!

Have I understood it correctly, that there are 2 types of Moby fabric, stretchy and not stretchy?

I still haven't ordered, keep changing my mind!!!

have you tried your local board on the natural mamas website? maybe theres some mams near you who have one you can try? I run a library and both are good and will do the job just fine but I prefer the moby (or any stretchy wrap)

WeAreSix · 24/08/2012 20:10

I had a look on the mams website, no luck finding anything local.

I have ordered the moby wrap; not a bad price at £36. Looking forward to it arriving and seeing if I can manage it :)

I used a tricot slen, which was very similar to a moby. DD was too heavy by 4 months though. A longer term option would be something that isn't stretchy like a Girasol wrap, or a Babyhawk mei tai.

Slumberoo used to do cheap sling hire, worth seeing if they still do

You can always tie the fabric on a close to keep it out the way.
