Right ho. I'm taking LO on a long train journey of 10 hours in a few weeks. He will be 17 weeks old by then.

At the moment, we use a Caboo Close carrier, which I do like, but I find it a bit of a faff, especially as it is in two pieces, and I find the outer part hard to get on right and tight enough. It works well for short walks, and around the house.

I'd like something new for this train journey though. Ideally, something that I can wear the whole time, but if I do need to take it off or put it back on it should be really easy. No knots to tie and as little readjusting as possible. I don't expect that I'll actually be carrying the baby the whole time, but I'd like something that I could just leave on, and pop him into when needed.

Any ideas?

What about a ring sling? You can just leave it on. quite easy to adjust but good idea to practice with one first.

I've only just stared using a ring sling now DS is 17 months so wish i'd got one sooner.
Apart from that some of the soft structure carriers might be good (I've not used any myself as I like meiteis) something like Beco, manduca/tula/connecta

Oh and on a side note I don't think you have to use the cumberband bit of the close carrier provided they are upright facing in.

Connecta. Leave it fastened around your waist and dangling down when he's not in it. Very quick to pop him in.

You're right hazchem - when he's facing in, I don't need to use the band, but he doesn't really like this position anymore. He prefers to be facing outwards, which means I normally end up holding his head up!

I like the Connecta, but it looks like you can't do a front-facing carry?

Oh I stopped using my Close after the first forward facing out day. I hated that he had no support if he fell asleep and it really hurt my shoulders!

I use mei tai and you can hip carry or back carry so LO can look around or over your shoulder. You can do this in a ring sling too.
You can back carry in a connecta not sure if you can hip carry in them but maybe.

I'm having a look at the ring slings...they seem quite versatile.

Very ! I can't do it with high heels let alone with a sling!

Rubirosa · 01/08/2012 14:32

Facing out isn't a good position for babies to be in, so most reputable slings don't have a facing out option. I'd go either for a ring sling or a ssc (connecta, R&R, manduca, ergo etc).

I see that now, I've just been looking at why you shouldn't have baby facing out.
