What age can ergo be used from?

And when is it ok to wear baby on back?
I have second ds who is 4 months. I am currently using close sling, but feel I'd like something more structured.
I have never tried wearing a baby on my back. Do people do this around the house? Or just on walks to park etc? Does it feel as safe as having them on the front? And do they fall asleep as easy?
Sorry for so many questions.

Sorry. I just found the info on the ages on amazon. So it's 4months/ 7kg. Or use infant insert if they are younger.
My ds is 4 months, but only 6kg. So maybe we'd need insert?

I would back carry in a SSC (soft structured carrier - like the Ergo) from around 5-6 months - when the baby is sitting unaided or close to doing so. You can back carry in a woven wrap much younger as it moulds around them to support neck and upper body much better.

I wouldn't bother getting the Ergo insert now at 4 months. Apart from anything else in this heat it will be un-useable as it is like a lump of duvet.

I back carry both around the house (e.g. for cooking, hanging washing) and out and about. I still mainly front carry my 4 month old, but find from previous experience with my older two that I tend to back carry more and more as they get older and heavier.
