Carrier suitable for 3yo and 2mo? Help please...

Can any of you help with this problem please...

I have a 3.2yo ds1 (c29lb) and a 2mo ds2. I have a babybjorn (I know what people say about it but I personally get on well with it and both ds1&2 have been v happy in it) and a littlelife backpack which is still fine for ds1 but very large and bulky.

I don't get on well with wrap slings or ring slings, one of the things I particuarly like about the babybjorn is that it is structured, very easy to get the baby in and out of, he feels secure in it and when I'm dealing with ds1 (e.g. putting him on the toilet etc so lots of bending over) I'm confident that ds2 is safe and secure and not likely to fall out!

What I would like is a structured carrier which is light, easy to use, is suitable for both ds2 as he gets older (I'm happy with the babybjorn for next couple of months) but also for ds1.

Most important (and this may be impossible!) is I'd like a carrier where it would be possible to carry ds1 on my back while ds2 is on my front in the babybjorn. I wouldn't need to do this for long periods (don't think I could manage the combined weights for too long anyway) but would need to be able to easily get ds1 on my back while ds2 was on my front without any assistance as I travel around quite a bit on trains, underground etc on my own with both boys and often it's not practical to have the buggy for one of them.

Any ideas/recommendations? I'm hoping to go to a local sling library soon to try some out but would love some advice on what to look for and whether it is possible to carry both at once like I've described...

TIA

erm tough one, Rose and Rebellion do a Pre-school carrier and according to their face book page are thinking of bringing a between size carrier out soon, may be worth a look. other than that i'm no sure i'm afraid.

Thanks both, very helpful and reassuring greentrees that I'm not completely mad to want to try tandem carrying them Grin. Sounds like I'm probably not going to get away with one carrier though so I'll investigate all your suggestions. Thank you Smile

If its not too late have a look at a pod carrier. I'm investigating this for the one size fits all potential

Thanks poocatcher, I've just googled that one and it's not quite what I'm after as I want something more structured as can't get on with wrap type carriers.

I'm currently trying a manduca from the sling library and getting on well with it, works well with ds2 and easily would fit ds1 however ds1 is refusing to let me even try him in it 'because it's for the baby' so not sure my tandem plan will work anyway! I'd definitely suggest it as an option though for a wide weight range as it has an integrated newborn support for up to 3/4mths and a zipped section which can be unzipped to make the carrier bigger for older toddlers.

I had a beco butterfly loved it Perfect for front or back carrying and I used it with my children until the youngest was a very sturdy 3yr old.
