I bought a rose and rebellion carrier as my 6wo was well above the weight range and has head control but its just not working for us. He loves his wrap sling and would happily bf all day in it but itsimpractcal for dog walks and its doing my bad back in. ( I have a hereditary deep lumbar region, an old shoulder injury and big boobs which make my upper back cramp AND sciatica :( )
He cries as soon as he's in the buckle carrier. With his legs out or tucked in, the carrier rides up as I have a very " hourglass" figure and he slips down. Is he just too little? It cost 80 bleeding quid! I'm loath to spend out on another similar thing cos EVERYTHING rides up on my body i can't see that any carrier will sit on my hips

Definitely sounds like he's still far too little. Also, I have an hourglass figure, I fasten my R&R either around my waistline so it doesn't ride up, or much lower eg well onto my hips now that DS is bigger, it shouldn't be riding up if it's not fastened too tight and positioned correctly.

What wrap are you using? To be honest with just about any wrap, including stretchies, you should be able to carry a 6 week old for hours without back pain. The most likely reason is that you are carrying him either too low or too loose, or a combination.

Are you anywhere near a sling meet or sling library or babywearing consultant who could help you to get a better fit with the wrap?

On the R&R I agree he's probably too little. With a small baby I'd fasten a buckle carrier around my natural waist - i.e. the narrowest bit - so it shouldn't be able to ride up or down too much.

Up until a week ago I was still carrying DS (8 and a half months) in a Moby without any problem, (apart from the fact that he was Houdini like in his attempts to free his arms!) and he's about 21lbs now.

We've just moved on to using a Mai tei with so far great success with both front and back carries.

I agree with pootlebug with regards to a stretchy, if you don't have it tight enough (and it needs to be a lot tighter than you think) it gets uncomfy very quickly.

The r and r carrier didn't specify an age just a weight but hopefully he will grow into it. I don't think I have the wrap too loose he is held pretty tight cos he's a wriggler and wobbles about if he isn't. I have no idea what brand it is I was given it. Its worth saying that just a normal days activity can leave me in a fair bit of back pain and this is a case of damage limitation. Its going to hurt a bit after a while whatever I use.
