Back carrying with a Moby

So DD is now 13 months and very wriggly. Too wriggly for me to front carry her in her Moby anymore. She's only 17-18lbs ish so weight is not a problem, she just physically tries to wriggle her way out.

I'm wondering whether to try carrying her on my back in my existing Moby or abandon carrying her full stop and hope she masters walking reasonably soon as she's not massively fond of being contained in her pushchair either. At least in a carrier though I have some hope of juggling her and walking the dog without tripping over wheels every few minutes.

I've spent the last half hour trawling youtube for a decent video to show me in simple terms how to get her onto my back and into a back carry and they all look SO confusing!

Does anyone know of any that don't make it look like the most complicated faff in the world or any sites that explain it well?

I think you're not supposed to back carry in a stretchy wrap.
I've got a mei tai and it's really easy to do a back carry with it.

You need to get something different and you can carry her no problem. I am slightly Envy that you have such a lightweight! My ds is only 14 weeks and is 17lbs already. I've found the Moby is already too uncomfortable, whereas my Karime is still fine, it has slightly more stretch. I'm waiting til ds gets a bit taller then I have the Ergo ready and waiting for him, I used it with ds1 and it's really really easy to use on your back.

Hmm I wondered that but the instructions that came with my Moby include a back carry guide. I just prefer to see things "in action" on youtube if you see what I mean. Maybe the guidelines have changed as its a 2nd hand off Ebay purchase so not sure how old the instructions are.

I was wondering about a mei tai but again the (crap) videos I found didn't look any less complicated!

fuckity she's always been a skinny minny despite eating like a horse since weaning at 5 months! She's 25th centile for height too so small all over but she's been quite poorly so lost over a pound recently. I have NO idea where the skinnyness comes from as its most definitely not me or DP!

I shall have a look at Ergo's too, thanks!

I don't want to spend a fortune having just had to take almost 2 months off work with poorly DD but I guess if I'm going to get another year+ out of a new carrier I can justify the expense.

Sorry to hear she's been poorly :( I would say, Ergos aren't cheap. But I do think they're worth every penny. I could easily carry ds at 3yo (though I would have no reason to do so!) as it's so comfortable. We got it when he was about 8mo iirc, and it's now on it's second child. He found it very comforting to be in I think, and it certainly made getting out and about much easier for times when a pushchair just wouldn't cut it (in the snow...) As for the instructions, i think quite a few stretchies try and advertise themselves as havign far greater longevity than they actually have iyswim. My first sling with ds was a Close, which also had instructions for back carries, which is just ludicrous imo.

Thanks, she's on the mend now but pneumococcal meningitis is one nasty bugger!

The Ergo looks really good! You're not kidding they're not cheap but I've stuck a couple on ebay on my watch list and see what they go for in the end.

Thanks for the tip off greentrees, makes sense, I shant scare myself looking at those videos and will take your word for it!

I did have a look for a meet from a link I found on another thread, but I'm Cambridge way and there doesn't seem to be much going on :(

Hmm looks like some more Ergo/Mei Tai research/2nd hand shopping is needed I think....

Oh really? Gawd I had no idea it was going to be this complicated! My ebay Moby has been fine so I hasn't even given it a 2nd thought.

I'm not dead set on anything so far, I do like the idea of an SSC though over a Mai Tai purely for the convenience factor I think. I love my Moby for the comfiness but it's quite frankly a pain in the arse to get tied, trailing the ends in the rain, in Tesco car park, with an impatient screaming child waiting, even with a years practice!

Thanks for the list :) , I shall work my way through it over the next few days in between working the next couple of evenings.

Try having a look on the Natural Mamas site. Lots of experienced baby wearers on there who can give advice and info on sling meets. They have a FSOT forum too.

I do back carries with my mai tai and it is pretty easy. If you like using a wrap you could get a woven.
