I have a baby bjorn comfort carrier for later on and trips out but it is not suitable for newborn and hours and hours of use.

I had a babasling for dd but I didn't get along with it and felt she looked all crumpled and could suffocate! I was too nervous to use it.

I will have a two year old I want to be able to have my hands free, I want to be able to get a new baby in it quickly and easily and know they are safe.

Any ideas please

Can anyone tell me the difference between an ergo original, classic and new generation. I had the one with velcro on the sleeping hood and I know it's been superceeded by one with poppers but don't know if there's another new one out now. Have looked for new generation online but found it impossible to locate other than in reviews

Oops sorry.new to this posting lark, didn't mean to piggy back your post, meant to start a new thread! I've had wilkie net recommended and found wrap sling a bit complex when my others were little, but know it's good support. Think it all gets simpler from 3 months!

Try a Connecta. Buckle carrier so might be less intimidating than a wrap. Can be used from birth, and much better carrying position than a Baby Bjorn.

AIKOOoki - Oh thanks, I just had a look, my they are bright aren't they! I think a buckle one is going to appeal to me, are there any other options. I was considering asking a friend about her baby bjorn (my one is for an older baby but she has something for a newborn - not sure of the model) are they all failing on the carrying postition do you know?

How about a manduca? It has buckles. I have an Ergo but if I was doing it again I would go with a manduca because you don't need to use a 'newborn insert'. The ergo is similar and my 10 month old is still comfy in it.

You can use a Babasling with the baby upright against your body in the "cuddle position" rather than using the sling like a hammock. The baby isn't crumpled that way and is more comfortable all round.

I have just got a bondolino and I think it is fantastic. Is suitable for newborns and the carrying position is very comfortable for both of us.

Not a sling expert as only ever used a Moby and a Connecta. DD outgrew the Moby by 8 weeks, she was a wriggler and we could never get it tight enough to keep her from wriggling free (with hindsight I wonder if the fact that DH and I are both small and skinny too did not help, I think if we had another child I'd start with a woven rather than stretchy wrap). Friends found them much more useful than we did and they are comparatively inexpensive, so I'd have thought stretchy wrap that you put on in the morning and just take your newborn in and out of would probably be the best option.

If you aren't keen the Connecta was great, I can only speak from 2m but DD was a little titch and only weighed about 8lb at 2m anyway. There is an extra strap they provide so you can gather the fabric under their legs together which we used until she was 4m or so. She was snuggled up on our chest so we could always see and feel her breathing. The sleephood was great for when she drifted off and we wanted a hot cup of tea or plate of pasta without worrying about burning her and we carried on using it until recently (27m) so it worked out as great value. I'd say it took less time than a Baby Bjorn to put on once we'd got the hang of it.
