If so, what do you think? Does the same thing exist for less money?

What features of the Olives and Applesauce are you looking for in another carrier? The O&A has an insert that can be used for a newborn, for instance. Not many of the carriers listed above can be used from newborn - only the Manduca, The Ergo (with the insert, which you buy separately), the Beco Butterfly II, and in theory the Boba - although in practice I don't rate the Boba from newborn, or indeed like the Ergo with insert very much.

The insert can also be used with a bigger child to make back carries easier as you can strap them in first then put them on your back. The only other carriers with that feature are the Beco Butterfly II and the Calyx (the latter is no longer made).

If you want a buckle carrier suitable for 5 months + without any internal inserts you have a heap of choice. If you want the features above your choice is much more limited.

As the previous poster says, different buckles suit different people. If you've tried and loved the O&A I'd think about spending the money. If you haven't tried one in person, I'd try to get to a sling library to try it and some similar carriers out.

2nd hand carriers come up on places like the Natural Mamas for sale or trade forum - I've seen O&As considerably cheaper there. Be aware the older ones don't have the infant insert bit though.

Thanks both,
I haven't tried one, just been recommended one by someone else. My sling library here doesn't have one, so I could hire one by post to try I think. I am pregnant so It might be hard to try, but I could always strap my DH up with it! I only used a wrap sling with my DS, but wanted to try something different, and one that my DH wouldn't mind wearing too.
I do want it to be suitable from birth, and make back carries easier- never did them with wrap sling just didn't get the hang of it. Also it would have squished my Boobs too much so I like the look of o&a because you don't have to use the chest strap.
Thanks for telling me about naturalmamas forum- I will have a look there.
