I have a Kari me already and love it!! But it is impossible to put my 1 year daughter on my back when i'm on my own. So I want to buy a front/ back pack type like the ergo, but i am confused!!!!
What is the best most comfortable and longest lasting one out there - so if i have more children they can be put in from birth.
Please help.

You shouldn't use a Kari Me on your back as I think they're a stretchy wraps and they're not safe on your back.

I've had a Boba 2G and a Babies Beyond Boarders and they've both been good. The Boba 3G can be used from birth as can the Ergo with newborn support.

As the previous poster said, the Kari Me really isn't good for back carries - a one year old can fight their way out of it fairly easily.

There isn't really a one best carrier - different brands and types suit different people. Do you definitely want buckles? Some brands and pros and cons:

  • Ergo
  • Manduca
  • Boba 2g and 3g
  • Beco Butterfly and Gemini
  • Olives and Applesauce
  • Angelpack
  • Toddler patapum
  • Rose and Rebellion

If you are near a sling library or sling meet I'd go along and try some things in person, as different strap widths / amounts of padding / waist-belts etc suit different shaped people. www.slingmeet.co.uk for details.

I like the Manduca, because:

  • The body panel is adjustable, which helps for arms in / arms out
  • Can use from birth
  • You can cross the straps over your back in a front carry. I find this much comfier than wearing like a backwards rucksack. You can do this with the Rose and Rebellion and Olives and Applesauce too. Not with the Boba or Beco, and it's tricky with the Ergo.
  • The infant insert bit is built in but folds out of the way unobtrusively when not in use. Some carriers have a more in-the-way insert, some can't be used from birth. The Ergo insert is IMO too hot in the summer and for indoors.
  • It fits me well.

Olives and Applesauce and Beco Butterfly have an internal harness to make getting the baby on your back easier, if that appeals.

I can't recommend the Beco Gemini highly enough. Similar to the Ergo, but a clear improvement afaic.

Love the Boba, also similar to the Ergo (tried a friends before buying) but has a higher back and stirrups for buba. My 2 year old is still very comfy in it (and naps in it when out and about)
