At what age/size/developmental stage can you do back carries?

Once their heads are really stable - I think 6 months is about the earliest that I'd be comfortable doing a back carry. And they are so snuggly on your front when little Smile

you can do them from newborn if you really want to. i used to put ds3 on my back while i made the dinner from about 6 or 8 weeks so he didn't get in the way

Thanks! Does it vary depending on type of sling?

i've only ever done it with a wrap until they were a bit bigger and could go legs out in a mei tai

Have just bought a connecta so would that be the same age? DD is 5.5 months and has really good head control.

With a woven wrap - from newborn. I wouldn't really recommend it unless you're proficient at front carries first though....back carries with a tiny one can be tricky.

With other sorts of carrier - when they can pretty much sit unaided.

The reason for the difference is that it is possible to securely but safely support their head and upper body in the woven wrap in a way that it just isn't with other carriers on the back.

Ah,she's definitely not sitting unsupported yet so will hold off for the time being. Thanks!
