Sling for bf newborn?

Been looking at reviews here and online see Kari me is popular here and have found good reviews of babasling.

I have a toddler so I'm looking to use the sling around the house. I can't get to a sling meet and don't know any shops that stock Kari me.

Any other suggestions be great. Thanks. Just want something so that once dc2 arrives have my hands free to tackle dc1!

The Baba Sling is really not great at all - don't go there! Difficult to adjust, not really the right shape, padding gets in the way. If you want that type of sling go for a normal ring sling rather than the bab sling.

Stretchy wraps like the Kari Me (or Moby, or Boba Wrap, or Wrapsody) are good because you tie them on then pop the baby in. When are you due? The Moby is quite hot in summer although the Kari Me is a bit thinner. They come up on ebay etc quite frequently, or there are various online stockists from new.

Another other possibility would be something like the Connecta which is a nice light easy buckle carrier.

Thanks Pootle , I'm due next month so not long to make a decision , would be easier to just order online I suppose. My main thing is being able to breastfeed in it , as dc1 is only 15 months so needs lots of attention.

Can I join in, as I have exactly the same needs! I have a BabaSling and fed in it a few times last time, and I bought a Kari Me from eBay but couldn't really see how I could feed in it so I sold it on again.

The thing I don't understand is if the baby is upright down the middle of your chest, how do they latch onto a nipple on either side?! Do you drag the sling round to one side or does the baby lean over? Surely their attachment suffers if they're not lined up properly?

I too need a solution where I can give a small toddler lots of attention, and one that's only just stopped feeding himself so is likely to be jealous if he's too aware of what I'm doing!

Hi LaTristesse ( are you a Manics fan? ). Yes you are welcome to join! I really hope there are a few more suggestions. I'm so confused I keep googling best sling for breastfeeding and there are heaps.

There is a video here showing bf in a stretchy wrap www.wrapsodybaby.com/breastfeeding.htm

Please do note their safety guidelines though - there is a risk of the baby suffocating if they are bf in a carrier, especially when tiny, so you do need to pay careful attention to them. I have a 16 month gap between my two but got away with reading stories / having a special feed time toy box etc at the same time as feeding rather than feeding in a carrier, but I admit I was lucky I had a 2nd one who fed pretty quickly.

A stretchy wrap or ring sling or pouch is probably easiest for bf a small one. It is easy enough to feed an older baby (4-5 months +) in a buckle carrier, but trickier with a newborn.

I breastfeed my dd2 in a moby wrap and a simple home made pouch. With both sligs I found it easier to use one hand to support their head, while the sling supported their body. This aloud me to feed walking around and with one hand free to deal with dd1 who was potty training ( bad timing that) and always seemed to need a wee as I stared to feed.
I have big boobs and if I tried to use the sling to hold her head against the boob when she was small she did look like she was being smothered. As she got bigger ( about 4 months) I did manage the odd hands free feed in the moby, but it ment getting her out of the sling and repostoning her for each side and moving carefully or she would loose her latch and by then she feed quite quite so it didn't seem worth the hassle most of the time.

A ring sling is super duper easy to BF LO of all ages...plus the tail is handy for wiping spit ups, milk leakage and as a wee privacy or wind shield :)
