How long was your ring sling comfortable for....

....and can I justify buying another?! I never really used my solarveil ring sling with the other 2. However baby no 3 (aged 3 months) lives in it - suspect I was on a sling learning curve with other 2 (SSCs, wraps, Close baby carrier) but when it is properly adjusted is so comfortable and so quick to put on and off. I am dreading when it gets to be uncomfortable and can't be bothered with the pfaff of tying again. The solar veil fabric is very light and non stretchy but wondering whether I could get more time out of a double layer sling or whether it would be a bit of a waste of money because you all gave up ring slings at 6 months (Someone evil here linked to Sakura Bloom slings and now I want one lots.....).

If it's fairly supportive (e.g. Sakura Bloom double linen or silk, or a ring sling made from a supportive wrap) it's still good for a 2 year old IMO. Not all the time - but still useful. Check out Natural Mamas and ebay for 2nd hand Sakura Bloom at much less than normal retail prices. They have a great sample sale a couple of times a year but I think you've just missed one I'm afraid.

Hmm. Have remedial sewing machine skills. Bit worried about seam failure - curtain hems, prepared to take risk; chance of baby falling out, not so sure. am actually more tempted by the double layer linen ones than the silk ones. Feel v justifiable purchase coming on as will undoubtedly be using it in 2014.... Interesting that you get on better with other slings. I feel I should try harder as would love to do back carries but can't seem to get it. Hated my beco butterfly - was thinking of ergo this time but don't want to give up my love affair with my ring sling.

I have a rather beautiful (IMO) silk ring sling for Oopa ring slings on Ebay at the moment.... Go on, you know you want to! Grin.

from, not for.

Thanks for the tip re sample sales and eBay pootlebug. Don't need one this minute so might keep eye out to see if one comes up. Nothing there at the moment:(

Sorry missed your message mrskitty. Off to have a look (realises the sling forum not good for encouraging restraint....)

I find it best to avoid anywhere where there are fellow sling lovers if you are trying to avoid buying anything - Too many beautiful things to get tempted by!

I had the one with the integral harness thing. This wasn't main problem though - just couldn't seem to get baby tight enough against my back and it felt like he was hanging off my shoulders. Agree re: 2 shoulders better than one which is why I was asking about how long people manage with ring slings realistically. Lots of people on the natural mamas site appear to ve happily lugging their 2 year olds around but closer reading suggests it is just for short carries. Maybe 3rd time lucky to perfect back carries. Will look into a slingmeet.
