advice on picking a sling for baby facing forwards

My DD is 3 & 1/2 months. We have a baby bjorn at present which I know lots of people don't like but she really loves, we use it with her inward facing and its the only place she'll nap during the day other than on us. Probably use it about 3 times a week for a couple of hours at a time.

However I think that it won't be long before she'll want to face outwards at least some of the time and although I know it says you can wear BBs that way I don't think that they look like they would be very comfortable for that. What would people recommend for when she wants to face outwards? We were given one of those long stretchy wrap things by a friend but even though my BF support worker showed me how to use it once I've never really got the hang of it and would like something easier to use for outward facing if possible!

Advice gratefully received!

The Beco Gemini at £85-90 has a forward facing option. I don't know anyone who recommends forward facing carries though as its not a good position for the baby's spine and leg position to be in.

We had a beco butterfly. Best 90 quid we ever spent. Used it right up until my youngest was 2 and half. Perfect because it can go on your front or back. If I ever had a third would defo buy another and not bother with a buggy.

Super comfy on your back to. No lower back ache or sore shoulders. Which I had constantly when using a baby bjorn.

Thanks guys. I didn't know that about the front facing position. I guess we're looking for an easy to use facing inwards sling where the baby can see more then - I don't think DD can see much facing inwards with the BB.

As their upper body and neck gets stronger, they can turn to look around much more - so facing inwards no longer seems to be a problem. If you'd like a more supportive but easy-to-use sling that you can use front and back, I'd recommend looking at:

  • Manduca
  • Boba
  • Beco Butterfly II (this has an internal insert that makes back carries easier)

Even if she does like facing out a bit, you'll find that she'll very quickly get too heavy for it (it doesn't hold their weight nearly as close to you if they face out) so I don't think it's worth looking for that as an option.

Are you near a sling meet or sling library (www.slingmeet.co.uk or www.ukslinglibraries.co.uk) - you could go along to try different things out before you buy. Different shapes suit different people.

Thanks for recomendations. have a sling meet and library near me so think i'll give that a go. She's trying to look round more so will try to find a less enclosed front facer.
