Would I like the close baby carrier if I didn't like a stretchy wrap?

I think I'd like another sling for when DC2 arrives, and one I can at least try to BF in.

I had a moby/kari me type one with DS and didn't get on with it at all. Nor the ring sling I had. So I swapped to SSC with him, which I love, but I'm not sure how newborn compatible they'll be.

What do people think of the close carrier? Is it easier to use than a wrap-type?

Has anyone managed to BF in it? I am large of nork (G/H when pregnant/breastfeeding) and I don't know of that's what made it difficult last time, or whether it was the sling type.

Thanks :)

Haven't BF in it. You'll need to practise getting baby in and out though. My main issue with it, while great for when DS was little, once he got passed a few months, it would drag down and he never felt secure iyswim.

Ah thanks. I have the SSCs for later, but was hoping to get something that would last about 6 months.

Hmm, more research needed I think...

That is super news Loopymumsy - I actually have a Manduca but wasn't sure how good it would be with a newborn.

I also have Beco Butterfly, which I looked at the instructions for again last night and think might be ok as well.

I didn't get on with the stretchies mainly because I felt like a total failure for being able to BF in them, given that all the instructions go on about how easy it is; so I thought I was just rubbish at tying/wearing them. But tbh once I tried a SSC I found them so much more secure that I think I'd be worried about the baby slipping in a wrap.

I think I might have to abandon wanting to BF in a sling and just use them for the perma-cuddle that newborns seem to want :o

Thanks so much :)

It isn't easy to bf in a sling - or at least, not a newborn. Especially if you don't have small boobs.

I am in the process of qualifying as a babywearing consultant and I wouldn't really suggest bf in a sling at all (apart from sitting down with the sling loosened so it provides some privacy if you want it, but is no longer providing the primary support).

IMO the difficulties of getting the positioning right and safe mean it's just not worth it. It's much easier with a baby 6 months + who is upright, but with a cradle carry I'd avoid it.

The Beco Butterfly II and Manduca can both be used from newborn. I was going to suggest a Connecta but if you already have those two I'd stick with those.

I have a Connecta as well pootlebug Blush I have a bit of a SSC obsession. It's my pram sling.

In that case I'll stick with SSCs and not worry about something that's BFable. I'll just dig out a big scarf to cover up with.

Thanks :)
