DS is only 10weeks old but is already 16lbs. I carrry him on my hip all the tmie and am interested in one of these. On kiddicare they're nearly £40 but they're only about £12 on ebay. Anyone who has one think they're the sort of thing you can get secondd hand? Or will it be knackered out?

I sold mine on ebay so someone obviously would! There is hardly anything to go wrong with them, a plastic moulding thing in a nylon cover with some Velcro and a clip. I suspect most people (like us) don't really get the wear out of them - I got on better with a sling. Ours was good as new when we sold it.

I never really got on with mine - it wasn't as comfy as I thought. Can you give one a good try first in a shop?Adjust it all up,put DS on and really pay attention to where you can feel the weight pulling.
I would think it would be OK secondhand as long as you check for obvious signs of wear.

I nearly bought one so I had a go with one. I also tried a 'hotsling', the hotsling was more comfortable and took up less room...not what you asked but might be another thing to try. some hotslings...

I got mine second hand in very good condition. Like Mammonite said, I suspect most people don't get much use out of them. But, for a second hand buy I think it's good value. I didn't use it much with DD1 as I think I got it too late. DD2 is 5 months and I think she's around 16lbs. I find the hipseat useful if I'm just trying to get a few things done around the house and she wants to be carried but I'm not planning to carry her long enough to make it worth me putting the Moby on. Or if I'm just walking a short distance e.g. from the car to nursery pick-up for DD1.

I can't say it's particularly comfortable, it does tend to dig in to my hip a little bit, but for short use it's quite handy to have.

I wouldn't get one, didn't like mine at all.

I don't like them either. I found that they put DS higher up than I was used to carrying him which felt weird, and it didn't really seem to distribute weight very well. For hip carries I prefer a ring sling, or for extra speed as agentcarter says a pouch sling is really good and takes up no room at all. You need to be careful with sizing though. With a ring sling or pouch sling you'd be hands free as well.

A second hand one would probably be fine though if you're sure it's what you want.

I paid £20 from tesco for one a few months ago. I live in a 2nd floor flat with no lift so it's perfect for carrying ds up and down to the car, and if just nipping to the shop over the road but wouldn't want to go far using it!
