Hi, hope you can help me here. I'm a big man and I'm really interested in getting a sling or a carrier for my newborn.

Trouble is I can't find any that fit, can you get extra length add on bits? Can you buy ones especially for fat boys like me? I've looked online and descriptions are ambiguous at best. I tried on a couple but no joy, in fact they don't even come close.

Hope someone can help.

John

What kind have you been trying? Ones with buckles and straps or long stretchy wraps.

Stretchy wraps, moby etc are really long peices of material which you tie around you. I'm a larger lady and could quite easily wrap baby in it with length to spare.

Haulk and Babybjorn, plus something else I can't remember, I'll check moby, thanks.

Ergo are pretty good. Dh not small and managed ok with it

Wilkinet is a wrap-around strappy type, with the baby strapped in separately. I'm a big woman and used one with no difficulty. There was plenty of strap left. IIRC they also either make ones with extra-long straps, or can lengthen straps on demand.

Google sling hire, or sling library, or similar, and see if you can find a place to try on lots of different slings. IME the person running the library is very knowledgeable.

We've got a Beco Gemini which has pretty long straps. If you want to know how long pm me and I'll measure them for you.

If you contact babasling and speak to them, they will make one to your size. I know this because my manshapes a big bloke too, and he wanted a sling to wear DS3. it cost around £40 all in. And they were really lovely.

My DH is quite large and managed very with with a Kari-Me wrap sling.

was going to recomend the wilkinet, but see someone has beaten me too it, they do one with extra long straps, my dp is 6ft and found the normal one fine tho.

also wraps come in all diff lengths and if you contact a company like didymos and give them your measurements they will tell you what size you need :)

Or you coul try a Mai tai which is a panel of fabric with straps to tie around the waist and another set that go over the shoulders, across the back and back round to the front. This type of carrier will last you longer than a stretchy wrap and you can get them custom made with long straps. I got mine
For £50 with extra long straps. Try looking on slingguide.com to see all the different types we're talking about as their is so much choice it can be pretty overwhelming. Then after taking a look on there try finding a sling meet/ sling library in your local area (just google sling meet + where ever you live) you can have a play with some slings and maybe even hire one to see if that what you fancy.

Oh and I thinks it's fab you want to carry your little one! I love seeing daddy's carryingWink
