Ergo, or a different buckle carrier?

DH quite wants a buckle carrier for speedier on/off (although he does enjoy the hippy comments every time he dons the didy wrap in public...). He likes the look of the ergo, but we mostly do front carries, and I've heard it's less comfy for that? Any advice?

DS2 is 6 months and fairly wee (9th percentile), would like a buckle carrier to use for a good long time yet (at least until he's 2, probably). I guess we'll switch to back carries a bit more, but we actually always found that DS1 was happier up front, and DS2 is shaping up much the same.

I'd like to be able to use it too. DH is 5'9 ish, reasonably stocky but not terribly huge, I'm 5'6 size 12-14, so not too teeny.

Help!

i love my ergo. I tried a Patapum first as it was cheaper and very similar, but I found the Patapum quite bulky on the straps and just not as comfy. I found it fine for front and back carries. Do you have a slingmeet near you that you could try one at before you buy? They've got quite a bit more expensive since I bought mine. I was a similar size to you when I got it and it was fine.

No sling meets near me, but I do know someone with an ergo who would probably let me have a go.

The only other one that I thought might be worth trying was a Manduca? I guess there's not a huge amount of difference in the price, so prob best to stick with the ergo if I try it and it's good.

Now to find another secondhand woven wrap and all my sling needs will be met!

Manducas are good. The back comes up higher than on the Ergo, so it may be better for back carries. The straps can be crossed making front carries more comfortable.
There's Beco too, though I haven't tried one.

Oh I forgot the Boba too. It has foot stirrups!

Boba, Boba, Boba! My husband loves the Ergo, but it definitely suits a man's frame better, unless you've got really broad shoulders. The Boba is so much more comfortable. Yesterday, while wearing my DS, I took my dogs on a two-hour walk, then, after a feeding, wore it for a further two hours while I ran errands. I big heart my Boba.

They vary person to person, so definitely go to a sling meet or a shop to try them before you buy. I wanted a Boba or Manduca because I am iffy about stories re Ergo's marketing (very aggressive, patent all kinds of things to block competition, allegedly) but the Ergo just suited me best. Manduca suits my mum far better as she is petite.

Rose and Rebellion carriers are really beautiful and similar, though I've never tried one so I don't know how comfy they are.

Above all else don't buy second hand unless it's from Natural Mamas, or you get one with an old receipt from an authorised retailer. Ebay is awash with Ergo fakes. I'll sell mine on Ebay when the time comes but it will come with the shop receipt, so people will know it is the real deal.

Beco Gemini is incredibly comfortable, would definitely recommend. Still using it for my 16 mo.

I've got a Beco Gemini too and I'd highly recommend it. My baby is just over one month old and she's very comfortable in it (falls instantly asleep). It's also ridiculously easy to put on and you don't need a PhD in carriers to know how to strap it in place. I love it!

I love the ergo, still carry dd (15kg) regularly in it. I prefer having her at the front for short journeys, but for hiking (in the peak district, climbing walls and gates) back-carry is more comfortable. expensive, but then we only have a cheapo buggy...

I've got a rose and rebellion which is so pretty, easy to put on (reversible so your DH can have plain black if preferred) and dead comfy. My DS is 5 months but still teeny and it fits him well. I have heard that they come up small though, so might not be suitable all the way up to two. You can also do back carries with them.
