Babasling - what position does your baby end up in?

I use mine across my body - in this Easy Rider position. DD (4.5 weeks) always seems end up with her head somewhere between my boobs / slightly under my right boob, with her legs starting to curve over my right hip.

She seems happy, and it's comfortable enough for me...I'm just wondering if her neck, and therefore breathing, gets too squished like this.

Any similar experiences or tips? Thank you!

Sorry OP I ended up ebaying mine, he never seemed comfy, maybe that was just me being inept!

Yesss, I can see that happening here too. Wish I'd bought one of the front carriers eg Baby Bjorn...

I'm not exactly experimenting with the Babasling to try to make things better, but let's face, when experimenting means you end up with a baby that yells for four hours, It's. Not. Tempting.

Have you tried having look on your mumsnet local to see if there is 'slingmeet' going on, or coming up? We used a babybjorn, but didn't buy it, borrowed it. He wasn't comfortable in it until about 12 weeks iirc.

Lots of mums rave about other slings, especially wrap/ring ones, hopefully someone more knowledgeable than me will pop along!

i hated my babeslng whends was newborn but since he was about 7 months its come into its own for hip carries and now i love it. I also use a mei tai which is great for longer carries (babasling can make yr shoulders hurt after about 10mins)

The key with any position is to make sure the baby's chin is not on the chest... If it is then there is a suffocation risk. I wouldn't use a babasling for this reason, you could google bag sling for more info on the types of slings that are now banned or go to www.slingguide.co.uk I think.

I lived in our moby and connecta when ds2 was tiny /)

Agree - if her chin is to her chest and/or she is grunting, that's not a good position to be in. I don't think the babasling is as deep as the bag slings which were recalled but they can still be tricky to position baby safely.

this is a good general guide which includes pouch slings.

It seems that even if she is too curled up it should be easily solveable, but if you wanted to try any other options, you can do an upright carry with the babasling according to your link - does this work for you? If not, then you could try a different sort of carrier. TBH I wouldn't bother with a baby bjorn as they aren't very good for the baby's hips and they aren't very comfortable for the parent either. If you are interested in trying a different kind of sling, I found a stretchy wrap really good when DS was tiny. If you want to keep costs down you could look second hand, or I made one in the end (no sewing required!) - just buy 5 metres of jersey cotton and cut to 20 inches wide. Or if you want something which you can use right into the toddler years then Mei Tais are excellent, they tend to be more expensive though.

Thanks all - first things first, will try the upright position. And yes, there's a slingmeet near here - not heard of those before - thank you. It's got to be worth finding something, the tube is such a pain, although I've found people very helpful on the stairs so far.
