Mei Tei slings are suitable for newborns, but you need to be aware that cheap ones can be made from unsuitable material that isn't supportive enough, especially as they get bigger and heavier. I never got on with Mei Teis but that was just me - I prefered wraps as they are nice and snuggly!

Have you had a look at slingguide.co.uk/ - there is loads of advice and information on there.

Personally I prefer wraps, I used a stretchy (Moby) for DS2 and will be getting it out again in 4 weeks for newborn. DH doesn't like wraps so I also got a second hand Patapum for him to use. You can get second hand stretchies for about £20 and I paid £15 for the patapum, also second hand.

Once DS2 got a bit bigger I started on woven wraps which I will also use for this new one as well.

Have you looked for second hand wraps / slings? Not sure if I am allowed to post link to the forum which I found loads on, so I will PM it to you once I have figured out how to PM!

I bought a Babbasling which I couldn't get the hang of, but best friend has used it on both hers. Boots sell them for 40pounds, but TKMaxx (if you can bear going in) sell them for 20.
Can't find the pound sign on my keyboard, it comes out as #!!!!

Thankyou both!

will look into them all :)

I loved a stretchy wrap when DS was tiny too. I just bought a length of jersey cotton (5m I think) and cut it into 2 strips, 20" and 40" wide. Folded the 40" one so it was also 20" - 2 slings for about £15 I think.

Then when he outgrew that I moved on to a Patapum (toddler size) - one of the most supportive SSCs you can get (and happily, one of the cheapest).

In total I spent £55 on those two which is less than some slings are just for one.

Looking up I see I have done exactly the same as Kirsty Grin

I would go with something stretchy too - I used a Close carrier as I wasn't brave enough to use a wrap I had to tie myself!

I find that the BabaSling is fab and very easy to use with my 18 mth DD but couldn't get the hang of it with my newborn.
