Littlelife backcarriers...any advice???

I'm taking my LO on holiday to pembrokeshire at the end of march (DS will be 11 months old). We'll hopefully be going for lots of walks and the terrain isn't suitable for a pushchair and the car's not big enough for 3 adults, 1 baby, luggage and a travel system!!

I've looked at a few carriers and I think for what i want it for that the Littlelife onces will suit best.

However...

There are lots of different ones and i'm not sure which one to go for (the company website isn't going to say their products are rubbish are they!!) Hmm

Does anyone have a Littlelife carrier, of any sort?? What do you guys think of them?? Pros and cons would be really helpful.

Thanks in advance

I don't have a littlelife carrier, but the one we have has some very useful features which I would look for again if buying a new one;

  • easy straps to help keep baby back if he/she slumps forward in sleep
  • a frame that clips out at the bottom so when you take the rucksack off, it stands alone
  • bag under the rucksack bit to stuff loads of things into
  • easy-access mesh pockets
  • large enough to grow with our children (our nearly-4 yr old can still fit in!)

Features it doesn't have but I would consider looking for;

  • some kind of cushioning to protect baby's head from lolling when asleep
  • rain-cover/porch thingamy I've seen - looks a good idea!

We have just bought a Littlelife Freedom for our 10 month old and it's been great so far. It's light and really comfortable to wear and our baby loves it. We liked the adjustable and proper rucksack straps, and the waist support is substantial.

We looked at the LL ultralight convertible but were put off seeing our year old niece in it, she looked quite large in it already and were concerned we may not get value for money if we went for this model. I think the Freedom will last until our son is a good 3 years old - so worth the extra money. However, it is a large backpack (but very light), so if you do a lot of holidays etc which mean you have to fly, packing-wise the ultralight may be better.

Hope that helps :)

thanks toomanycakes, I had the same hold ups about the ultralite, plus they look a bit flimsy. Thanks for your advice.
It's just so hard when so few places actually have them IN THE SHOP!!!! Feel like a bl**dy nomad hunting for them on the high street/retail parks/shopping centres etc etc etc

Agree it's so hard to find actual shops who stock them ..... we did find a local independent baby shop where we tried the freedom out, although were not allowed to our our baby in it, we had to use a 20lb weight they provided instead Hmm !

We have the Littlelife Freedom. We've only taken it out for a trial run across the park, but DS loved it and DH found it very comfy. We got ours in John Lewis. They let us try it on with DS in it.

We bought the raincover separately as JL don't stock those. We got it from Little Trekkers [http://www.littletrekkers.co.uk/ here]]. Really pleased with the service - ordered Thursday night, arrived Sat am by special delivery.

Thanks. It looks amazing. I have sceduled a trip to John Lewis this weekend.

I've also been looking at the Bush Baby ones. Do you have any idea about them??

We tried on the Mothercare one's...but A) They were on a shelf about 25 feet in the air...with NO labelling B) the shop assistant seemed REALLY pissed off that we asked her to stop dressing manequins and help human beings and C) DS had a cold so was miserable as hell.

I had the littlelife convertible which looks like a normal rucksack and opens out.

I really liked it and thought it was very well made and well designed BUT the hip belt was just too high up for me - I am 5'11" - and was totally useless for very tall DH. Some of the bigger backpacks have adjustable waist belts but I would try one on if at all possible. If it doesn't sit properly on your hips the weight is all on your shoulders which is really uncomfortable.

I went back to using a mei tei, still carry enormous 21month DS in that although not huge distances these days!

Ooh I was just about to order the littlelife convertible, but my husband is 6'2" so if the waist belt isn't right, then that's not a good idea. Hmmm. Maybe the Freedom then?
