Advice on Ergo or similar for a Baby Bjorn user

DS is 7 months and is nearing 10kg, so I'm planning to buy a baby carrier suitable for a toddler (planning to use the carrier for a long time).

I currently have a very basic Baby Bjorn model and I like it, so I'm looking for something similar - but distributing the weight to my hips as well).

Also have a ring sling to use at home, but I guess I prefer the structure of a Baby Bjorn, specially for long periods.

I have 3 options:

  • Baby Bjorn Comfort
  • Patapum
  • Ergo - I'll probably buy one of these, but I'm at a loss to which model is better. I want something to wear for long periods, which DH will wear occasionally.

Any suggestions?

I have the ergo and love it. dd is nearly one year old and well over the 10kg mark.
we use it all the time, even went hiking in the peak district with, climbing over walls and fences and all that.
we hardly ever use the pushchair anymore...
it is pricey, but you can use it until 18kg (which even my 4year old hasn't reached yet) and well worth the money.

oh, and dh and I both wear it, it is very easy to adjust.

thanks mousymouse!

(good to know i can hike with it - miss my hikes a lot!)

do you have the traditional or the performance/sport ones?

just one more question - is it comfortable for baby to sleep in it?

it's the normal one.
sleep is not a problem the ergo has got a hood that you can clip to the shoulder straps and stops the head from lolling about.

I've seen a pic of the hood. Looks funny but it seems to be very useful :)

You can use it for hiking
It is great for sleeping. I have a very active 2.5yo and he frequently falls to sleep in the ergo as soon as he's put in it. The hood is really useful not only for very sunny days when they're little but also for when they're sleeping as it keeps their head in place & v comfy. I love the ergo - so lightweight compared to those structure frame carriers, and it can easily go in your bag if they want to walk

Great, I think that's precisely what I'm buying. A traditional Ergo. Now I only have to decide on the colour :)

Thanks for the input

I have Bjorn and traditional Ergo. Absolutely adore the Ergo. My DS is 7 months too and can walk for long stretches with ergo but can't carry him at all now in bjorn!

Went to a home schooling day in Williamsburg, Virginia and ladies with six kids all had ergos (got back and immediately bought mine). Saw uber lady hiking with toddler in ergo on back and little one in moby on front!

Janelizj wow to woman hiking with toddler and baby. Hope to be like this when I grow up! :)

Bought the Ergo today. Now I only have to learn how to use it :)

Take a look at Beco Butterfly II - they're really great!
We've used ours from when DS was about 6-7 months to this day (he's 19months). And we've done back carries, front carries, passing him from person to person while in the carrier (Ergo doesn't allow this). It's been really fab, even for long periods... even when pregnant Wink. It's very-very comfortable and I'd recommend it to anyone.
