Baby carrier recommendations?

DD is seven months but is a small baby, app 6kilo.
We have a baby carrier (i go from mamas and papas) which she enjoys being in, but I have a couple of issues with it and think if I got a carrier more suited to me I'd use it more.

My issues/requirements

  1. I'd like something where she can either face towards or away from ms (i go says it can do front facing but I can't work it out). Ideally also one where she can go on my back, but that's not so important.
  1. I am short and quite slight (bigger now than I was before though!!). The carrier I have doesn't seem to quite go short enough in the shoulder straps so I want something that will fit little me and also 6ft 4 DH.
  1. DDs legs kind of bash off mine when I carry her. Not sure if she is too low on my body. But I think some carriers kind of have the baby's legs almost wrapped around mum. My one baby's legs just go directly down.
  1. I would ideally like something with some sort of hood, and would be fab if there was a waterproof cover for the sling& baby so I could take her out in the rain.

I'm maybe asking too much! The one I have is fine. Just could be better...

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

facing out is not recommended for hip/spine development.

i think a connecta integra would work well for you. its a buckle carrier, easy to use, can be used for front and back carries and holds babie from teeny to toddler. its holds their hips in a good 'froggy' position, so no knee bashing issues, and the integra comes with a sleephood as well.

reagrds to a waterproof cover, i would be inclined to try and zip her inside your jacket, or get a jojo maman bebe fleece suit to wear outside of your coat. they keep baby nice and snug and the fleece repels water slightly.

Hello Tea

Ditto Misdee's comment re outward facing carries.

Also -

"3. DDs legs kind of bash off mine when I carry her. Not sure if she is too low on my body. But I think some carriers kind of have the baby's legs almost wrapped around mum. My one baby's legs just go directly down."

This means that your DD isn't in the correct position for carrying and it may be putting pressure on her spine. To properly support her, and limit strain on your own back, her legs should be in the "frog" position and look "wrapped around" you. Your current carrier may not be very good or you may need to adjust the way you're using it. What kind is it?

Ergo, Connecta, Mei Tai, any kind of woven wrap - all should be good for carrying a baby of this age on front or back.

Again like Misdee, I just tend to zip DD into my big coat with me and put a hat on her. If it's tipping down, I'd probably use an umbrella or wrap a scarf/shawl around both of us too.

Thanks both of you. The carrier I have is I think similar to a baby bjorn and I think is what some would describe as a 'crotch dangler'. It makes sense that that is not good for lower spine.
The integra looks good. May well invest in one as my Christmas present to myself.

Hi. Just wanted to add that my connecta arrived today. It seems really easy to clip on and definitely holds DD in a much different way. Her legs are so much more wrapped around me and it feels very comfy for us both.

Thanks for your advice.
