What carrier when outgrown Ergo?

We?ve used the Ergo daily and my 21 month old daughter seems to be growing out of it slightly. I realise you can use them for older toddlers, and although she?s on the light side, she?s not short either and the edges aren?t meeting the crook of her knee, so it?s not as comfortable as it once was. It?s also quite a short carrier and something longer might be good. She has also said she's squashed, even with me loosening it.

Are there any soft structured carriers that are taller and wider? Would a mei tai fit the bill? Maybe a Toddlerhawk?

I can use a Girasol thick woven (like a Didymos) because you can wrap it so it meets the crook of the knee, and have also got a Calin Bleu gauze but my husband (who looks after her three days a week) doesn?t like using a wrap. Plus I think it's harder to wrap on a triangular man's body shape as the knot rides up.

She naps in it every day and I back carry her in it when I can?t dawdle about on public transport.

It seems pointless to buy a pram at this stage. Husband will not countenance a stroller, he absolutely loathes them.

a toddlerhawk would be great I think. when i read the title i did think mei tai!

Toddlerhawk would be good, as would a Taitasi toddler sized. My favourite older toddler/preschooler carrier is my Dreamcarrier wrap conversion half buckle as it's so tall, and the structured waist is v comfortable even with my 4 year old in. But I've had the TT, and still have a TH even though we don't use it now

DH likes the TH and the Dreamcarrier - the TT was a bit bright for him and the straps were a little short

in fact i think sasaslings are doing a pre-order on babyhawk stuff atm...

yeah here you go

Hello, many thanks everyone. It sounds like a mei tai. Basically something taller and wider. The Ergo would be good but even when she was little (and she's a 9th centiler) it was a bit on the short side.

Where could I get a wrap conversion? Is it one of these things where you have to scour the babywearer? Or can you just buy them?

I've got a Rose and Rebellion which is a lot longer than the Ergo (I tried on an Ergo after buying it and was surprised by how short it is) and can comfortably carry DD1 in it, who'll be 3 in December. You could also try a Patapum toddler.

CMOTdibbler · 03/08/2010 21:33

If you are interested in a wrap conversion, I was thinking about selling that and the TH. I can list them in the For Sale bit properly - don't mean to be cheeky by mentioning it here

otchayaniye · 03/08/2010 22:08

oh oh oh, yes please.

Thanks BoBoo, I didn't know the patapum came in toddler size.

Seems to be a Holy of Holies on babywearer and slots are hard to come by

(Is it me or are they a bit obsessive about their stashes over there )

Hi CMOTdibbler - I hadn't set my email options to 'Allow' in case you tried to contact me.

I'm definitely interested in the wrap conversion and maybe the mei tai too.

People have also recommended the Manduca and the Boba and may be an option seeing as my husband prefers SSCs.

Cheers.
