Slimmer of the Week basket

KnitWitsAnonymous · 08/04/2026 10:04

I am a fairly new Slimming World member. Last week I won the 'Slimmer of the Week' basket and got 2 tins of baked beans, 1 tin of spaghetti hoops, 2 onions, a banana, a packet of pasta and a dodgy courgette! Whilst it was nice to win, I didn't find my winnings very inspiring

I keep trying to think of more interesting things to take along as my contribution and am low on ideas (& low on budget!)

If you have ever won the basket, what were the items you loved?

And, for all SW members, what items would you most enjoy?

Many thanks

(For anyone reading this who hasn't attended SW, members are encouraged to bring along a food item and place it in a shopping basket. The member who loses the most weight that week wins the contents of the basket.)

Two consultants I went to previously used to get people to put 50p in a dish for the prize for the following week. One used it to purchase a fruit basket (smaller group) the other used to buy the ingredients/equipment for a specific recipe (huge group so the pot was quite big) sometimes one from the magazine, sometimes something different. For example one week was a chip crisper tray, frylite in different flavours, a selection of syn free seasonings and bits to make free/low syn dips. Another week it was ramekins and the ingredients for a 1.5 syn bannoffee pie.

Could you float the idea past your consultant? It worked really well.

Oh wow! That's a really good idea @PeapodBurgundy

That makes so much more sense than getting some random bits & bobs

I'll run that past my consultant and see if she's willing to do that

Many thanks

Mine does a raffle (minimum 50p) and the prize is usually ingredients for a recipe. This week it was tea bags which tasted of caramel (?).

Out SOW basket contains beans, fruit, eggs, hifi bars. Can't think of anything particularly inspiring!

We have a raffle too ~ it's usually fruit or vegetables ~ I've never won it

The tea bags sound a bit bizarre!

I've never seen eggs in the Slimmer of the Week basket ~ they would have been more useful than some of what I received! I have seen members buy Hi-fi bars and toss them in the basket, perhaps because they've forgotten to bring something with them? I have been guilty of this!

I am on week 5 and have only just last week worked out what the Slimmer of the Week basket is about. Agreed random stuff is not as useful as ingredients for SW recipes.

Lostallhistory · 21/04/2026 08:55

I won slimmer of the week and my basket had tins of different kinds of beans , none of which I like and a very sad looking red pepper.

laura246810 · 21/04/2026 11:14

Our group mostly put in tins. If you dont like something, you bring it back each week until eventually it goes to someone who likes it.

KnitWitsAnonymous · 21/04/2026 17:59

At this week's SW the basket consisted of a couple of dented tins, a punnet of very sad looking mushrooms, a pepper, a yoghurt and some low calorie cup-a-soups. I was quite glad I didn't win!!!!

One of my friends won a couple of weeks ago and donated all the tins, pasta etc to the food bank at the church next door.

When I won before I received 3 different types of pasta, some pears from someone’s tree, low sugar jelly packet, tin of butter beans, dried apricots, a tin of tin, apples, and some JD seasoning packets. I quite liked winning the randomness of it.

The other week I won the raffle that was a selection of different Healthy Extra Fibre choices which has been great as I now have several new choices I wouldn’t have tried before. It did contain a certain cereal that I know I wouldn’t have liked so I bought that in for last weeks Slimmer of the Week basket.

I tend to bring in tins of butter beans (I personally love them) I hope this way other people will try them. I have been getting rid of my hi-fi bars in them the last few weeks as I don’t enjoy them and my group are nuts for hi-fi bars. Personally I would rather receive some veggies, and will start bringing in a broccoli or butternut squash. Some nice fresh ingredients.

I know this thread was a while ago now but I like to put non-food items in there. Things like re-usable food storage bags from B&M, the oat and fruit jam jars with lines were good value. got some measurement spoons once. Some people do the spice packets that are syn free. I don't do it every week, usually some fruit but sometimes it's nice to have something a bit different.

I haven’t been for ages but my meeting’s SOW basket was fantastic. People put in things they’d grown on their allotments, a bunch of daffodils, a nice soap. People also used to put in low syn foods with labels on them.

Our group has been running a long time with half the members being target.

Our SOTW basket is always good, Because we know what needs to be eaten, we go off piste and there will be hand creams, body lotions, inspiration mugs, silicone muffin thingymebobs and hard found items like the lidl Sun Dried Tomatoes in the sachets

Dont feel you need to contribute food, if you feel you need to contribute at all

Besidemyselfwithworry · 31/05/2026 00:46

Our group they’ve banned anything “fresh” so no manky vegetables or fruit ready for the bin!!!
It’s mainly tins of stuff/ packets of pasta etc - anything I get we won’t use intend to the kids schools for tombola’s or food bank donations.

im grateful they’ve banned fresh stuff as some of it was awful!

CoastalCalm · 31/05/2026 06:51

I got a load of damaged fruit and random and very out of date tins once including carrots - I actually mentioned it via text to the leader and she told the group that it was unacceptable ( she just said it had happened in one of her groups ). After that standards improved

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 31/05/2026 07:10

I won it the week after Christmas once and it was entirely full of satsumas!

How about a piece of tropical fruit? Melon, mango, kiwi, papaya?
