Can I ask about the meetings, please?

I think I’m going to rejoin, for some accountability. I lost a stone 6/7 years ago, I’ve put on over half that amount now. But the meetings! I found them excruciating! As I had not much to lose I was never going to win any accolades and I found it soooooo boring clapping everyone’s weight loss, even though I was pleased for them. It just seemed interminable. Are the meetings the same? Do you enjoy them? Do you find it motivating?

Its not go round the room and ask each individual about their week anymore. There's a little bit of yay for weight loss but it's a quick 5 minute bit in my group.

The rest of the talk is usually about a topic, maybe a member will bring up something theyre struggling with and we'll talk about that or the consultant will bring up a theme for the week - like reasons why, triggers etc

I find it better than the old format, but ive got a good group where people are willing to join in.

That’s great thank you. I also hate the target setting, I never ever lost more than 1 lb. Setting a target and not achieving it is not for me. I still feel it might help me to rejoin though.

They don't tend to do target setting each week anymore if that's what you mean? When they did ut was acceptable to just say "a loss",

I think it’s all about the Consultant, I’ve had the worst and now got the best
Our Consultant can always read the room , keeps the energy going , focuses on what we as a group want and genuinely wants to help anyone struggling , ours is a great group and really helps keep me on track , I’d go along to group and if you don’t like it , try another .

I'm doing SW at the moment and totally agree with the PP above ~ it's all down to the consultant.

I did SW a few years ago and the consultant was dreadful ~ she had a little group of friends who helped her with the weigh-ins and shop and she didn't seem to care about anyone else. It felt very clique-ish. The consultant also used to give stupid advice e.g. if you're attending a buffet party, just eat the garnishes!

I've started again at a different venue and the consultant is such a lovely lady. She seems really interested in each of us and goes out of her way to help with our individual queries. As a result, attending the group is a really worthwhile experience and we cover a lot of different topics ~ recipes, recommendations for specific products, health issues, batch cooking, packed lunches, healthy snacks etc. I'm really enjoying it so much more this time round.

I'm older (late 60's) and am finding it harder to lose weight. I'm sticking to all the eating plan guidelines but my fitness/activity levels aren't very good! But I'm going to stick at it as my weight has been creeping up since I retired and I really need to tackle it

The only drawback for me is that I've become addicted to the Hifi bars that SW sell!!! They're really lovely, I love the different flavours, and I have 2 every evening as part of my 5 - 15 Swips (the new name for syns)

Good luck OP ~ I hope you are able to find a nice group with a helpful consultant and will enjoy attending

Thanks everyone! I’m 65 and little so it is hard! It certainly sounds as if things have improved. I know what you mean about it being clique-y. It’s something I think consultants should be very aware of.
I’m glad you don’t target set any more. I think psychologically that was bad for me - because I would have failed every time!
I can’t go now for a couple of weeks anyway but I appreciate your advice, thank you x

Hi looking for some advice. I normally have a Sheltons brown nap for breakfast as a HE. The past few days I’ve then had a M&S wholemeal roll as the other HE for lunch or dinner depending on my meal.
is this ok, I’m worried I should use something different within my HE’s

@TheLimeFinchHello I think you’re posted this on my thread by mistake. Might be better to start a new thread as people might not see it.

Totally agree with PP that it's all about the consultant.

I've been to three groups over the years. One friendly but dull. One friendly but excruciating in the ways OP describes. One fun, relaxed and really motivating. It was all down to the manner of the consultant.

Wilma55 · 01/05/2026 09:30

@TheLimeFinch you can use your 3 HEx as you wish though they recommend having one calcium. Anecdotaly people having 2 fibre choices have seen their losses reduce. If it doesn't affect your losses carry on. Good luck.
