Hello - I've recently started slimming world and am doing ok but we are out with friends at an Indian restaurant tomorrow evening.
Can anyone recommend any vegetarian dishes that are not too bad? Starter and main?
Thanks so much!

You have to live your life as well as want to loose weight.

If I go out for a meal, I choose what I want to eat and don't worry about it. One meal is not going to stop weight loss. Eat your meal and back on plan with the next

I think the tandoori dishes are less calorific as they're grilled and not in an oily or creamy sauce. Something like tandoori chicken with plain rice.
However, I also agree that you need to live and enjoy yourself.

Eat what you want. Start again tomorrow. You’ll be fine!

As a veggie I’d eat paneer tikka or saag paneer. No bread and a small portion of rice if you’re reducing carbs.

Some helpful replies OP Hmm
It’s been ages since I did SW but I seem to recall 2 vegetable samosas and a vegetable jalfrazi with plain rice was just within my syns.

minnienono · 15/03/2025 14:38

Opt for 2 side dishes and no rice - aloo gobi which is potato and cauliflower then maybe brinjal bhaji, or mushroom (I also like okra but not everyone does). If you eat meat better would be tandoori chicken which comes with salad.

TumbledTussocks · 15/03/2025 17:15

from memory if you’re having bread chapati is the most SW friendly.
The sauces are where most of the calories are so I always went for chicken tikka but obvs not veggie and a small chickpea curry.

avoid bhajis and samosas - as a massive fan of paneer I think the portion sizes are just too big for slimming world (and too irresistible, for me at least. Go for a tomato based veg curry - so avoiding nut / coconut dishes like korma and just try and eat mainly solid bits with steamed white rice.

maybe cauliflower bhaji - the one that is just vegetables and not fried in batter
veg heavy tomato
chapati
steamed white rice

but although you’re not meant to I’d do a couple of days eating 0-2 syns and carry some over.
drink lots of water and eat slowly and mindfully but also just enjoy. Have a little of what you fancy and consider it a long term change rather than all or nothing.
